HI Sam

nice work so far, but for my taste are the fittings a little bit too large :dunno:

Hello Mike,

You are right, they are a little too large, but I hope they will look better when I install the body and windows in place. :)

Finally, I had some free time to make progress with the Lizards, so here we go:

I added the rest of the wiring to the interior:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/intcables1.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/intcables2.jpg

I sanded off the molded detail of the Fujimi fire extinguishers and added decals and new details:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/extinguisher.jpg

HereŽs the fire extinguisher installed in place:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/intext.jpg

The heads of the rear shock absorbers are visible in the interior, so I added this pieces:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/heads.jpg

Fujimi did not include any detail in the inner door panels, so I added carbon fiber and fabric handles to replicate the real car detail:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/doorpanel.jpg

Since I first watched the interior photos of the real cars, I wondered what the cooler next to the driver seat was for, and I found this is a cooling system called COOL SHIRT. This system permanently send cold water through tubes attached to a t shirt, preventing cramping, dehydration and other heat issues. This is specially useful to drivers in long stints of a 24 hours race:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/coolref1.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/coolref2.jpg

The Profil24 kit includes a resin cooler with details molded in, but I made my own using styrene pieces and added the mounting box covered in heat shielding foil:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/cooler.jpg

And hereŽs the finished cooler in place:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/coolinplace.jpg

So, this is how the interior looks so far:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/interiorgood.jpg

Now, time to detail the console!...I sanded off the details of the Fujimi part and did holes for new switches and buttons. I added carbon fiber decals:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/consolefiber.jpg

Not the best photo, but I wired the console panels:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/wiringconsole.jpg

HereŽs the console with all the detail...I only need to add clear acetate to the display and add the steering wheel:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/consoleswitches.jpg

The seat is also in progress...I painted the seat with semi gloss black, added carbon fiber decals to the rear of the seat and covered the decals with gloss clear. After the clear dried, I masked the decals and sprayed flat black paint from a distance to obtain the fabric texture I wanted:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/seatpaint.jpg

Next time, IŽll show you the finished interior!!

Thanks for your interest my friends! I am having a lot of fun with this project!

What did you use for the clamps on the fire bottle?

Shunter, I used Crazy ModelerŽs Clamp set. I really recommend it.

The interior is finished!! First, I completed the console with pedals and steering wheel wiring (I also added ventilation tubing...Some race teams eliminate the regular vents of the console to add the tubing):

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/dash1.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/dash2.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/dash3.jpg

Next, I finished the seats with belts and buckles. I added the helmet radio connector to the side of the headrest:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/seatfinal1.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/seatfinal2.jpg

I installed the gear shift and linkage. The roll cage was installed at this time:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/cageinstalled1.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/cageinstalled2.jpg

With all the parts finished, I glued everything in place and the interior is now done!

Sam - your interior details look the part. Very "busy" in a racecar way. I like how it has all come together, and the tube fittings and lines on the "air jacks" don't look too large as was previously said by one poster. It all looks to scale now that it is all together. Did you have a part number for the fire bottle "clamps"? also what switches did you use on the panels? Thanks Sam - John

You're absolutely right Jochen! With the interior tub done, this models are almost done!

Did you have a part number for the fire bottle "clamps"? also what switches did you use on the panels?

John, the part number of the Clamp set is EP0095.

For the panels, I used regular pin heads for the larger "Push" switches, Hobby Design switches (part HYDHD07-0025), Model Factory Hiro aluminum rivets (part MFHP911) and Scale Motorsport nuts and bolts (part 8117). The scale motorsports pieces were painted clear red to represent warning lights.

Thanks everybody for your interest!!

John: Yes, I bought the complete body kit. I am waiting on the photo etch from HLJ and the wheels from Mike at Scale Productions.

you will not be sorry for getting Mike's wheels - best wheels out there for 1/24 - I'll never buy resin wheels again after seeing Mike's quality - I was a bit disappointed with the HD PE sets - not much is used because it's not for the RSR body also the brake rotors which I've built are tedious as hell for something not really seen - PE disc brake covers would have worked just as well as complete brakes. I just started a fourth kit - "BMW Z4 GT3" - not sure if I'll ever get these kits finished -lol - no I'm waiting for the PE for the BMW from HLJ - I need to get the bodies painted and decaled and that will give me motivation to finish the tubs and under-carriage. This GT3 Ferrari 458 I was working on I think is going to become a GT2 version - can't find enough detailed photos of the GT3 version. - John

Finally, I installed the suspension pieces and finished the chassis! When I glue the new diffusers in place, almost all the detail will be hidden, but I did some improvements anyway.
I used Hobby Design brake discs and calipers and added brake lines. I covered the inner wheel arches with carbon fiber decals and scratchbuilt new shock absorbers and springs:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/suspension1-1.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/suspension2-1.jpg

Sam01 - this all looks great - I've also made the brakes from the HD PE set, but I used the outer disk pieces that had the drilled holes in them instead of the slots. The bodies are painted!! First, a coat of white primer:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/bodies1.jpg

And then, ZERO paints applied to the bodies...I just love this stuff...VERY easy to use. Only the bodies and wings are shown in this photo, but I also painted the side mirrors and wing plates:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/bodies2.jpg

And just to be 100% sure the clear coat (Zero 2 part clear) wonŽt eat the decals, I painted the remains of a Fujimi body to use it as a test part:

Nice update Sam - I also have the Zero paints from Steve at Hiroboy - and I agree it is so user friendly. How did you determine where to change the color of the paint? did you use the decal as a template and then mask so the different colors will fit the decals? Also how many coats did you apply? - looks very good Sam - waiting to see the decal application - are you going to use ProFil24 decals or the decals from frank at Decal.doc? - John

I made a photocopy of the decals and used the copy as a template to define the place of the second colour.

And hereŽs a little sample of the process... The decals are very easy to apply and they respond very well to Micro Sol/Set:

The decals are done!!!

I canŽt say enough about how good the Profil24 decals are. I have used a lot of decals, and this sheets must be in the top 3 on my list:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/decalsfinal1.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/decalsfinal2.jpg

All decals adhered beautifully to the ZERO paints clear without any tear or wrinkle. They reacted very good to Micro Sol, and their finish is glossy and even. One day after the decals were applied, I sprayed a couple mist coats of clear:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/decalsfinal3.jpg

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/sam01contact/LIZARDS/decalsfinal4.jpg

The finish looks very good to me! The clear dried very even and glossy, so no sanding or polishing will be required.

Now, time to prepare the last details (windows, grilles, etc) and final assembly. Thanks for watching!! :iceslolan

Wow Sam01 - that really looks fantastic - well done - I have Frank's "decaldoc" decals and I also just received a set of decals for each car by Patto at "Pattos Place" that do not have a background color like on his original decals for the flying lizard cars. The Pattos Place decals are very good quality and allow for painting the background colors with "zero paints" so anyone wanting a set of the decals should go to Pattos website or contact Patto via an email. - John
