Being a civic owner ( nice reliable car , just looking for a bit more power now), and extensivly looking for a new car. I have seen o so many people trying to make their cars run the 1/4 mile in much less than there 17 or 18 stock speeds. Well the question that runs through my mind is why is everyone going for all these cars when you can just go for a 97 or so Z28 with 285 some odd HP that runs the 1/4 in less than 14 seconds stock . Is there anything wrong with these cars that i dont see alot of these on the road.

Price would be the killer for me.
Also, I want to take a car and rebuild it almost completely, which means I'd want to start with an engine I could junk and it wouldn't really matter.
Just a thing for origonality for me, I would want a car that was all mine since it'd be my hard work that'd be put into it,
but for now it's only a dream...

i think it matters where you live if you see them on the road or not. in the south they are all over the place, and they are very reliable. my friend has a '97 camaro with over 130k miles on it and it is still verrry fast.

Yup, location means a lot. You can't have one as your daily driver if in the winter it snows all the time. They're not bad in those conditions, you just have to take it slow and be alert. Main reason, as stated, would be the price of them. They're more car and cost more to insure than what you're used to. If you get one though, you'll love it.

Also, a 97 Z will run low 14's, high 13's stock, depending on the driver. Just fyi:D ...

yea theres a like a few in my town ( live in the northeast ) more mustangs around here than camaros and for firebirds they are kinda rare. Your thing about 130k miles see as an import owner that doesnt impress me , i have a 130k miles on my civic, infact and it will chug along till the body rotts around it.

My body doesn't rot, it's fiberglass :smoka:, and it'll see number beyond that as well...

I'm 22, never had a wreck, never had a ticket, and am paying about $900 every six months for insurance for my SS.

that is not bad at all! , i currently am paying 1800 a year ( no coverage) on my 95 civic . A 2000 mustang v6 costs 3k a year to insure :( would a camaro be more ? or less

Would be comparable I think. If that is just for a V6 though, anything with a V8 will make the rates go up. The color of the car may have something to do with the rate as well (red cars cost more for example).

it would be a good bit more expensive.

but alot depends on your age......if your 21 or older then your insurane is half from when you where a teenager. At 25 your insurance drops another 10-20% pending driving record.
(my ma' and sisters are insurance agents)

I do not understand how insurnace works! I am 22, I have a 1996 Camaro SS with 20,000 miles and a ford aspire with 55,000 miles. The camaro is listed as a low milage car (under 9,000 a year) and I get both rides for less than 426 for six months coverage! Less than 900 a year! Both cars are in good shape and the camaro has full coverage. I do have a perfect driving record but still sound rediculous when I compare to anyone else.

I don't understand it either. I heard the one guy mention his civic was $900 for 6 months... my car is $270/ six months. It's crazy....

[edit: I'm 22, clean record]

I am in the good hands of all state!

Another interesting insurance thing... I recently switched my beater car to the 96 aspire, I used to have a 1995 Dodge intrepid until everything on it died at once(thats another story) but my insurance actually went up 4 dollars to drive a 63 HP aspire. Figure that one out.... I would think the aspire would be cheap...any accident the car is totaled and the driver is killed... :)
