Started on this one a couple weeks ago. Primered the "tins", painted most of the parts, and getting ready for some carbon fiber fun tonight and tomorrow.
If anyone has a pic of Sylvain Guintoli's test bike, I'd like to see a pic. I have a couple pics of him on the older style upper cowling, but I need a pic of him on the newer style bike. He only raced in one race - Czech Grand Prix at Brno. I can't find any pics for him at that race though...
Anyway, ramble off. Pics on.

diphnfn - how much detail do you plan to do on this build? is it going to be OOB? John

Thanks gents!
@miguel - Thanks! Appreciate it!
@John - Not much more than OOTB, honestly.
@badi - Studio27's add on sheet. Very good quality stuff.
Little bit more done over Christmas break...
Paint is on - pardon the dust. ugh.

Carbon is applied!

I just cleared the body panels this morning. Should have decals on in the next couple days.

It's looking good Erick - what type of clear did you use on the suspension parts and on the body panels? which company and size is the carbon? - Thanks - John

No clear on anything in the pics yet... Straight out of the can Tamiya TS29. I've been using KA CF for this one exclusively. They are nice and dark and conform very well.

Why dont you leave the cowlings off? you can make a simple stand to display them seperately. i dont think your efforts should go unseen!

Couple chassis shots... I added some VERY lightweight fiberglass to make a insulation sock for the shock reservoir. I thought it looked cool!

On to finishing up the exhaust and a few spots to detail, then it'll be done-dizzle. Getting close...

dlphnfn - this YZR is soooo sweet I'm getting a cavity just looking at it. The cowling are perfect - did you carbon the inside before you did the 2K clear or did you complete the outside first, then work on the inside and clear both inside and out at one time? - without a doubt one of the nicest YZR's - Erick was that KA Models carbon decals? which one exactly - they have several types? - John

Cool, especially the carbon decals on the inner side of the fairings

Hey dlphnfn - Kans made a great suggestion - "why don't you leave the cowlings off" - make a stand for them - they look too good to be covered up - John

Thanks guys!
I'd not considered opening it up because I hate adding wiring!
I used KA CF on the inner panels and on all the CF parts. AFAIK they only have 2 kinds - twill and weave. I used the weave on the inner panels as there is no real pattern to "match up".
I just ordered the Yamaha logos for the tank and some weld lines for the stand. I should have it wrapped up this weekend sans those parts. I'll add those early next week, then it should be done! :bigthumb:

I'm really close to having this one done. I finished up the exhaust last night. A little over the top, but pretty close to what I was looking for...
http://www.dlphnfn.com/WIPs/yzr500exhaust.jpg
I wanted to try to replicate some heat staining with those bright gold welds. I ended up painting the whole thing Alclad duraluminum followed by some Alclad smoke, blue and red... Then I hit the welds with jet exhaust (a little wide), then chrome enamel, then clear orange.
Here is what I came up with.
http://www.dlphnfn.com/WIPs/DSCF5524.jpg
Here it is installed.
http://www.dlphnfn.com/WIPs/DSCF5525.jpg
http://www.dlphnfn.com/WIPs/DSCF5526.jpg
http://www.dlphnfn.com/WIPs/DSCF5527.jpg
http://www.dlphnfn.com/WIPs/DSCF5528.jpg
I fugged up on the pipe decals and put them on the back sides. I must have been looking at reference pics upside-down or something... Still have to figure out what the hell I'm going to do about that.
See you in the Completed Section NEXT! :evillol:

Looking great.
If I may make a suggestion regarding the exhausts?
Give them a coat of Tamiya Smoke to tone them down a touch, just my :2cents:.
Have you clearcoated the decals on the tail cans?

Erick -I'm with gpz900 - tone the pipes down just a little with the X-19 or TS-71 smoke - don't use the AlClad smoke - it is a "blue" base- the Tamiya is a "black" base - other than than the pipes are beautiful and the first time - since I've done it - attempts to get the gold tones to come out. For me I used ModelMasters brass buff metalizer and I buffed it until I got those gold tones. The "gold" welds come from the "brazzing" that is done with "brass rod" - If you've already cleared over the pipes - I have one of these versions I was going to do differently - I can dig it out and send you the pipe decals if you need - let me know. Even if you don't do any wiring I think you should make a stand and leave the bodywork off. This YZR really is nice - did you use KA carbon decal A or B - maybe you mentioned it but what color was the "blue" on the bodywork - which company paint do you use? thanks - John
