Hey guys,

I finally got my Turbo from Forced Performance today. I didn't really have a lot of time to look at it because I was on my way out the door when UPS came.
Anyways everything was there I will have some pics of the turbo and parts up tonight I think.

I figured for this thread I will try and get some logs and screen shots and give you guys a comparison with my existing FP 18g so you can see for yourselves what if any improvements to power/spool etc it makes.

I'll also try and document my install as well.

Pics soon

I saw on FB i guess you said it would support 470awhp. When does the TD05 exhaust wheel start to restrict your power? I remember when I ran a 20g people recommended to run the TD06 wheel at anything above 25psi.

Looks like the race is on, tunning mine some today and tmrw. Want to get it back up to 20psi at least

Yea well the website suggests that it flows 47 lbs/min. Rule of thumb is 10hp per 1/min. Good thing is 4g63's have been squeaking out a bit more than that. Nevertheless, the website had a 1g run a 10 on this turbo. That must be over 500 to do that even if it is gutted.
The TDO5H wheel does start to restrict but the HTA wheel is supposed to be superior. Only time will tell on that one ;)

Unfortunately Brian you pretty much asked for this. If you wouldn't have been such a slacker this would no happen.

Steviek - Boost is cranked up to 21psi, got to change to the 3 bar map before I can go any higher. Tires were breaking loose in third last night so not sure how high I can go in the cold weather. POS fwd

Yea so my girlfriend is flying in from Aus on monday so I don't want to rip everything apart this weekend just in case it humpty dumpty's on me. I need water lines for the turbo too. My other turbo is dry and I can't remember what I did with the stock lines HMM.

Just an update for you guys.
I sent my laptop battery in for a warranty replacement because it was not holding charge.

I have been holding off doing the install because my laptop is needed to start tuning. I can't wait to get this in as soon as my new battery comes I'll be all over it.

Also I am going to run it dry thanks Lando.

Update time :)

You guys ever heard the expression whatever can go wrong will go wrong .... Wellll

Alright so here it is the turbo install.

I picked a nice snowy day to start the work. Naturally it doesn't get warm in Canada so I pretty much accepted the fact that I will freeze my hands off doing the install.

First and by far the hardest thing to do was take off the JMF heat shield.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/553.jpg
So that went off nice and easy and then time to do the manifold.
If I had hindsight I would have undone the Down Pipe first before I took off the Mani.

THen we started taking off the o2 but realized it was too much a PITA (after my buddy broke my engine oil dipstick trying to pry a bolt loose.) so we decided to take DP off and get at the o2 after.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/558.jpg
The DP was hard to get off because its soo ackward but after that we got the oil lines off and the intake came off no problem so we were able to break the turbo free with the o2.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/562.jpg
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/561.jpg
Then it was time to get the o2 off it.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/564.jpg

THen I put the new gasket and a new stud into the turbo and bolted up the o2.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/565.jpg
Then it was time to put the oil feed line on the turbo.

Here is where shit got fucked up. I torqued the 12mm * 1.25 to-4an feed adapter just a little too much and well pic says it all.
http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j294/steviekallday/566.jpg
Now I'm stuck. Don't know anywhere in canada that carries AN fittings. Only americans use it haha! So i can either order one and wait a week :( or well I don't know just try and find one around? anyone know a loaction in canada that might have one?

The hardest part is done the reinstall will be much easier its just a pain in the ass now. And obviously might not have my friends help next time.

If it weren't for our friends breaking our shit, we'd break it all ourselves!

That royally sucks man. Have you googled locations in Canada that may carry them? Any racing shops in a 100 mile radius?

Summit Racing FTW! Always gotten my items from them next day, even with standard shipping. Great for when breaking fittings. Done that plenty of times.

I ordered from summit racing. The 15 dollar part costs me 35 with shipping and lets not forget the down time.

That really sucks dude, at least its an easily replaceable part. And on the plus side you where able to get the broken part out the turbo. Cant wait to see what this thing can do. I have seen a few cars on tuners running some impressive times on this thing.

steviek
12-31-2011, 01:42 PM
Yea neither can I!

I got my laptop battery in the mail so my car is fully logable/tunable too.

I think I can def get it sub 2 :)

Thats pretty impressive. What boost level was that at? I bet that car is pretty nasty on the streets. When are you seeing full boost on a third gear pull?

steviek
03-19-2012, 10:31 AM
Thats at 28 psi you can see how much boost im running in that vid I posted.

As for the full boost is around 4000rpm in 3rd. Very nice spool up on this turbo.

I wish I could throw the log up for you@!

SilvrEclipse
03-20-2012, 06:44 AM
Thats not a bad spool up, although my holset is only a couple hundred rpms slower than that. I always heard that the TD05 wheel would get restrictive in the upper 20 psi range. This was on a 20g so maybe your turbo is a little different. I wish I could see the log. You could try and post it, megasquirt might be able to open it.

i guess i can take a screenshot.

Wow that log is hard to follow. Way to many of the same color lines. I tried sorting through most of it, does the boost spike and then taper off as the rpms climb?

steviek
03-23-2012, 09:32 AM
yes it does a little bit but not a whole lot maybe a couple psi. Again if you want you can refer to the video I posted to see the boost spike/taper.

Looks like your getting some knock. I struggled with that the whole time with my car.

steviek

ya battling some knock its just a lot of boost for pump gas. even with meth.

ned032002
03-27-2012, 07:10 AM
Its all good man. You should have seen how much knock I had in my logs...! The line went to the top! seriously

SilvrEclipse

Must be nice to have a knock sensor...

steviek
03-27-2012, 03:54 PM
ya lol I remember something about like a stethoscope or something you had going didn't you?

On a side and completely unrelated note my car is running like a bag of piss right now def a miss fire and running lean. Worst part is I gotta be in court tomorrow morning so I need to have it running well for the 30 minute drive. Which means I gotta fix it tonight. ERR

SilvrEclipse
03-27-2012, 04:20 PM
Yea something like that.

And its about time you invest in a DD

steviek
03-27-2012, 06:31 PM
I found what it was a vac line had come off the JMF SMIM.

On a side note I managed to break the front o2 sensor. WIN!

steviek
03-27-2012, 06:32 PM
Lol I need a lot of things man. I would like a sweet DD but its just cool to have the beast as my DD at the same time. When something goes wrong it compels me to fix it. Or ill end up like Brian...

This is true, I have spent several nights working on the car till 12am just to make it to work. It sucks for sure, its nice to have a few running cars that I can fall back on. And I can push the car harder knowing that if it blows up I wont be SOL

^LMAO

Howd you break the front O2?

steviek
03-28-2012, 05:50 PM
Well I had fixed it before by putting on some electrical tape cause it was shorting out.

Anyways my car was running lean so I figured it was shorting again. So I was taking off the tape to see if the wires had fried. But I ended up ripping it too hard and ripping the wire out of the sensor :) haha.

Oh well I got a buddy bringing me another one one saturday to swap in.

If I really need a car I would be able to borrow one for a little bit. I can't afford to buy a new one yet. I got so much debt from law school that It was up in the 6 figures... I'm down to 5 figures! But I'm still along way off from making any purchases. But I really want to buy a house too....
Even now that I'm working I'm not earning as much as I would like to be. So its hard. But in time it will come the foundation is there so I'm happy.

steviek
03-28-2012, 05:52 PM
Oh and edit// I don't ever lay off or take it easy on the car. The car has to be running on the street like it would at the track or I'm not satisfied. If it blows up I will be SOL but I live in the now!
