Antifreeze leak into crankcase

Hey I sold my GTP back in the spring, have since repented, and am in the market to get another. I found a decent one, but in the ad the guy said; "the only thing it has is a leaking coolant into crank case which is easy to repair." That doesn't sound good, so I wanna know if anyone has heard of that, is it common, where would it be leaking from? Would it really be easy to fix? There's waaay too many posts about coolant leaks to find any that relate to this exactly. The car is too far away to just go look at, so before I even bother calling the guy, I wanna hear what ya'll have to say about it? 2001 GTP, 115,000 miles. Thanks

This issue can be caused by several issues. Leaking lower intake manifold gaskets, cracked heads, bad head gaskets and or a cracked block. Also if it was driven with a large amount of water in the oil it can destroy the bearings. I would walk away from this one.

More than likely the upper plenum leaking.....real bad leaks from this can fill a cylinder and hydrolock the engine....

Like GTP DAD said, walk away....you have no idea how long that coolant
has been circulating with the oil....

Have fixed hydrolocked engines, and some with the oil in the crankcase......the affects of the coolant in the oil being circulated, sometimes don't show up right away.....could be months....and then it is a MAJOR repair, or in some cases, an engine replacement...

If it's actually leaking coolant into the crankcase then the engine is FUBAR.

The only think you should find in the crankcase is oil and associated crank, rods bearings etc.



Is it possible the person selling the car means coolant is leaking onto the outside of the engine block somewhere?
Possibly pooling in the V between the heads on top of the block?

If so it maybe an easier fix, but your still considering a car that has a known fault, and it raises questions about how well it's been looked after and what else could have gone wrong.
