Tire Pressure Monitor System and Snow Tires

I have a 2005 Pacifica with 19 inch aluminum wheels and I installed the reccommmended 17 inch snow tires with new steel wheels. The TPMS indicates a tire problem. Can I turn it off the system for the winter while the snow tires are installed? then turn it back on in the spring when I re-installed the original 19 inch wheels with the sensors? or do I just deal with the annoying flashing light and service tire soon warning?

Thanks,
Dwight
