hello,
I have a 88 dx hatch and am planning an engine swap this june. I want to go with the jdm d15 1.5 SOHC V-tec that makes 130hp from 92-95. I can get the full engine for 500 bucks. I have a spare 90 si engine tranny and Ecu so i was going to use the si intake manifold tranny and Ecu and then get a Apexi V-tec controller to activate it. I know you can get a jdm 1.6 SOHC v-tec but whats the difference and what would be the best set-up. I need some opinions.
The reason i am going with one of these motors is the weight I will save by not doin a b series DOHC. I eventually want to race the car in autocross so weight distribution will be key. Any comments and suggestions would greatly help, thank you.

i know your trying to save money buy goin with 90 si intake manny, ecu and distrubitor, but you wont have the full power as if you were to have the obd1 distrib, ecu and intake manifold... try getting a hold of the 92-95 equip.
I had the setup you were planning in one of my civic. it was horrible.. I didnt like it at all.. low end sucks ass.. but high end. kicks ass.. still sucks
good luck on ur swap.. 500 is cheap..
Greg has a new swap Looks like he needs to get wiring info done. and flywheel then he is all set.. so if anyone got a fly wheel laying around for him.. let him know!!!!!!!!
haha

I think its a good idea. there will be no wiring changes, and the engine would be a direct bolt in. especially with the si tranny, you should be a quick car. I have a d16z6 with the z6 intake manifold, but its still OBD0 using pm6 injectors, ecu, distributor and wiring. If i would've had the Si intake, i would've used that just to have ease of installation.
Also, im not 100% sure about autocross regulations, but i belive an engine swap will put you in another category and for a beginner, it would be very very tough to win. You might want to check on that, as most autox dudes i've talked with say to use a 100% stock car until you get very good at manuvering the course, then add mods according to skill.
and yes, its true that you wont extract the most power possible from using the 88-91 si setup, but you will still have a quick car.
