EACT Electronic Climate Control cross reference

I am having trouble with my electronic climate control. I bought one from ebay about a year ago and its flaking out. There are several part numbers listed for a 1998 Mercury Sable. The one I have in now is F8DF-18C858-FB. With this unit, prior to it flaking out, I had a problem with the coolant fans energizing when the AC is turned on. When I replaced the unit, I didn't keep the original and am uncertain whether the above model number was an an exact match. It had the correct connectors and did everything it was suppose to--except maybe the fan control for the AC. Anyway what I need is a cross reference of the correct part numbers so I can be sure I locate the correct unit.
Anyone have an EATC Cross reference for a 1998 Sable?

The EATC does not control the cooling fans directly. They are controlled from the PCM, the EATC provides a signal to the PCM to turn on the A/C. I highly doubt that the EATC is the reason your cooling fans are not running.
You mentioned that you were having a problem with the fans turning on when the A/C was engaged. I'm assuming you mean the fans DID NOT turn on, is that correct? Have you seen the fans run when the engine is hot? Have you checked for signal to the cooling fan relay and or the cooling fans when the A/C is engaged? Does the A/C compressor clutch engage?

Hi Rod
Then I must have a bad PCM. I was hoping the EATC told the PCM to turn the fans on. The AC compressor does run--but the pressures are all over the place until the coolant fans kick on. I have replaced the relays but do not get a signal to energize the fans when the AC is activated. The fans come on and cycle with engine temp as they should but the fans do not come on when the AC is turned on. I replaced the coolant sensor, checked the relays on the bench and then went ahead and replaced them even tho they checked good, and just for good measure replaced the AC switch.
The replacement EATC football has started coming and going--hit a bump and it dies--it may come on in a few minutes or it may come on the next time you drive it. I have pulled it a couple of times and checked the connectors but they look good so I'm assuming its internal to the football. This is one I replaced last year with a unit from fleabay and am now looking for a new replaement. At that time everything seemed to work until I noticed the AC fans were not energizing with the AC. The compressor went out and I now figure that was the reason. I only discovered the fans were not running on AC after I replaced the compressor and was trying to charge the system.
The original p/n is F8DF-18C858-FB. They seem to be hard to find used. Apparently there are several versions of the radio and the connectors do not all match. Mine has a single multipin connector on one side and a 2 pin connector on the other. Some have more than one multipin connector on a single side. So since mine is so hard to find used, I thought there may be a p/n cross for other p/n's to fit.

I'd be more inclined to say they are difficult to find because they don't fail often and demand is low.
If you are comfortable reading wiring diagrams and using a multimeter, I could send you the wiring diagram for the EATC and A/C system so you can confirm you have the correct voltages where they should be and continuity where you should. If you'd like a PDF of the relevant sections from the service manual, send me a Private Message with the request AND an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments.

Are you referring to the radio or climate control? The bulk of the radio functionality is performed by the Rear Control Unit (RCU) in the trunk. The electronic climate controls are a different story though. You'll need the diagrams for both the manual climate control system as well as the electronic system. The blower motor controller is different and I think the manual system may use vacuum motors rather than electric motors.
May I ask why you want to switch from the electronic climate control to the manual system?

It sounds like maybe something's been hacked up behind the instrument panel in your car. Is your car a Taurus or Sable? Also a 1998?
The turn signal blinking faster on one side is usually an indication of a burned out bulb at one of the corners.

Hi, I'd like that wiring diagram too. The vehicle is a 1999 Ford Taurus SE DOHC with EATC. Thank you!
