Bleeding B2 Clutch

I'm having a @%$ of a time getting the clutch bled on my son's '88 B2. It had about 3/4 pedal of sponge, but the clutch did work OK.
I was under the truck working the bleeder screw, he was working the pedal and making sure the reservoir was full. He kept telling me it was full; after 5-6 times of bleeding it, he said he had no clutch feel at all. I checked the reservoir - the bonehead didn't remove the diaphragm and the res was empty. Now I can't get any clutch action at all. :banghead:

Any advice on this???
I may replace the master; the PO had replaced the clutch shortly before my son bought it last year, but I doubt they replaced the master.

And what's the deal with the @$!& bleeder screw not having a nipple to attach a hose? Just a nut with a hole in it?!?! Way to go Ford. I'd been a Ford guy since the early '80s, but after seeing things like this, I'm so glad I switched to BMW!
