oil spraying from the oil filter

I have a 1998 Buick Regal LS with a 3.8 ltr engine. i started the car to warm it up the other day and when i returned found a puddle of oil under the car. The oil was spraying from the oil filter. I changed the filter making sure there were no old gaskets. started the car and the same thing happened. I changed the pcv valve and filter again and same problem. it seems like the oil is going into the filter and not returning to the engine. Any ideas?

You might have a stuck or plugged oil pressure relief valve, so your pump is building excess pressure, which can rupture the filter.

It should be built-in to your oil pump

Try hooking up an external oil pressure gauge. If the pressure goes much above 60 psi, there's your problem.
