I have two corrados, a modified '90 g60 and a stock '93 vr6, and I am selling the g60 this weekend for 3500, so about 5000 is my budget. I know I own two VW's, (now) but I kinda like the new civics and have been looking a lot at them and the older ones lately, fill me in.

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 09:54 PM
Well, lookin for new, or used?

dubolox
11-08-2001, 10:05 PM
used, i like the look of the hatchbacks... kinda like the BMW coupe... but obviously less expensive and less fast:silly2:

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 10:07 PM
Maybe less fast than the M3, but I drove a friend's 318 IS, it wasn't too much faster than my car.

dubolox
11-08-2001, 10:10 PM
is that your car in the pic??? it looks SWEEET, what 'zorst is that??

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 10:14 PM
if zorst means exhaust, then it's a Tenzo R. here's a close up pic...

dubolox
11-08-2001, 10:17 PM
that's what I mean... they don't sell cool mufflers like that for VW's. Its all just a muffler then 12" in. of exhaust then a "tip". I like the integrated muffler/right into the "tip".

Since you like V dubs, how bout gettin a Golf GTI? THose things can haul a$$

dubolox
11-08-2001, 10:24 PM
i already have a corrado vr6 and i dont plan on getting rid of it... a 1.8t gti would be the way to go, but very pricy, i can get another used car that'll go fast for way less money. The 1.8t is only in the newer v-dubs... but i'm sure you know that. Plus I like making older cars go fast instead of buying a fresh new car, more of a challenge.

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 10:27 PM
Well, do you want a car that's fast right when you get it, or do you plan on makin it fast? If you plan on makin it fast, you could find a 93-95 Civic hatch for less than 5 g's. Maybe you could even find an Si. Then some money, a little work, and some more money, you could build up a pretty mean car.

dubolox
11-08-2001, 10:29 PM
i know a little about the si's, but not too much. What is the best way to make 'em go fast... price effectively (chip, header, 'zorst, p/p head, intake, t-body)??????

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 10:36 PM
Well, there's the usual bolt on stuff, like you said. I think for the money, the chip/ECU would give you the best gains. exhaust, intake, blah blah. but you can only go so far with bolt on mods, you know?

dubolox
11-08-2001, 10:39 PM
how about stroker kits... no replacement for displacement

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 10:43 PM
Well, now you're gettin into heavier mods. If you go all out, you can look at racing cams, pistons, rods, pulley's, flywheel, titanium valves, carbon fiber hood for less weight, racing clutch, changing gear ratios, it goes on and on

dubolox
11-08-2001, 10:46 PM
what's in your car? how fast is it? bolt-ons or more?

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 10:49 PM
I'm 19, in school, no job. my pockets are so empty. I have no money to spend on my car, although I wish I did. I only have an intake and exhaust. If I had the money, I know the exact route I'd wanna take with my car. all motor, no forced induction. I'd get a JDM type R motor, and build it up. but my 50 cents in the bank can't support my (wet) dream

dubolox
11-08-2001, 10:53 PM
JDM type R motor????

quickcivic
11-08-2001, 10:56 PM
hey, i've been following this post and you're right. bolt-ons will only get you so far. anybody have any experience with increased displacement and headwork on a NA car??

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 10:57 PM
JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) are cars that are only sold over seas, they got more power, and more style. The civic type R is a car that we civic owners in the U.S. dream about. this car is a 2 liter, 200 HP car that's so light, who cares what the torque is. Damn, 100hp/liter. not too shabby huh?

quickcivic
11-08-2001, 11:00 PM
wow, that must RIP!! i saw some SI-R's when i was in europe a couple years ago, they look pretty good.
i just hate people over here though, that put SI-R stickers on their cars, when it's not an SI-R

dubolox
11-08-2001, 11:03 PM
more style??? please explain, carbon fairings, flashy, what do you mean by style, doesn't make it faster.... right? Don't get me wrong, but torque is awful nice to have. My vr6 will drive around all day long in 5th gear, doesn't matter how fast you're going 20mph or over you're fine.

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 11:06 PM
well, it's got a slightly lower stance, it has a more functional aero package. Yeah, torque is good, but this car doesn't need it. One bad thing aboutt hat is, if you have a packed car, like 4 people, you REALLY feel the draggin.

dubolox
11-08-2001, 11:21 PM
i bet, no torque + weight = slow as molasses going uphill in january

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 11:25 PM
No Torque + weight on a straightaway is slow as molassas. Oh, now that you mentioned january, This car is so light, and since it got no ABS, when it snows, the car aint goin nowhere.try takin a turn, you're goin straight. try to go forward, you're sittin still. try to brake, and you're still goin. Winter kills me.

quickcivic
11-08-2001, 11:25 PM
hey, easy with the "no torque" comments. i'm getting a little offended! i can rev my civic to 8000, there is no need for torque up there, it's all HP's baby. if i could, i'd take the torque right out of my car, it just adds weight.

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 11:28 PM
Hey, my 97 civ ain't got no torque either. and like I said, with no one else in the car, it don't matter. The car feels pretty peppy. But once you start gettin passengers, you can definitly feel a difference

dubolox
11-08-2001, 11:37 PM
maybe I'm wrong, but I don't want a "peppy" car... sounds girly.I want a FAST car, don't want to be a jerk, i know torque isn't that important, but lets be real. I know what a civic is and a I know what a Corrrado is, two VERY different cars and in their own domains they're fast. But don't start attacking me 'cause I drive a torque monster, I play on both sides of the fence (honda/vw... no further) and both cars are AWESOME so don't get defensive. Like I said in the "unspecified" bring it any time quickcivic.

Swonder67
11-08-2001, 11:44 PM
aright, not peppy, uhh, whats the word, can't think of it. Just, when I hit the gas, I get pushed back in my seat kinda. when I floor it in my mom's Sentra, nothing.

If you want a fast cheap car, then look at a 4th Gen (88-91) Civic Hb or a CRX. You can usually pick them up for $1200-$3000 then get a JDM ZC motor for it, you can find them for about $1200, then bolt on a turbo kit or Supercharger after a little while of saving.. You will have a FAST little car probably pumping out about 175 horsepower easy, thats with a stock motor and a turbo for probably around $6000 (depending on what you buy and where you buy it at). Then you could always build that up more.

ZC motor is a DOHC 1.6L motor thats puts out 137 HP & 108 FT-LBS of torque in its stock form.

Here are some links for Info on the ZC motor:
