I usually go to my local Canadian Tire for car repairs because I don’t have a trusted garage I can go to. Recently, I was referred to an accredited CAA garage. I was glad I could finally have my van repaired at a trustworthy place. I had to replace the Camshaft sensor on my 02 venture. A diag code indicated this problem with a check engine light on. He charged me $100 for the part and 2 hours of labour ($140). After doing some research myself on the web, the part is about $30 and it looks like replacing this part would not have taken this long. I paid $240 for this repair. Did I get ripped off? Honest advice is appreciated as I am ready to make a formal complaint to the mechanic shop.

I can't tell about the part. If it was OEM it was probably pretty costly. The job itself calls for 1.4hrs, the other .6hrs could have been diag. charge.

I needed a Oil level Sensor local suppliers wanted $60-120 for it ... I ordered it online for $9.80 + $5 shipping (to a US address).. shop wanted $50 to install it I did it myself on my next oil change 1 screw held it in .. So i think that was a reasonable price. if you can do it your self even cheaper .. :) I'm going to do my front hub Bearings next and again found that $100 (for 1) cheaper free shipping to boot. I think i'll take it to a shop to do :)
