Headers and a Catalytic converter

I have just inherited a 1990 Isuzu Trooper II from my brother who passed. It has an oversize cam and headers. Since I live in Pennsylvania i am required to have a catalytic converter to pass an emissions inspection. By installing a cat will it effect my headers or hurt the engine in any way. I am new to the forum so thanks for any help.
