Morning,
Doing a to a lot of research to try to fix my engine misfire code I found that my van has a couple of recalls, How long do manufacturers honor this for? I am guessing a safety recall is forever but what about any other problems associated with this model, how does it work?

Go to www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/aaarecalls_auto.htm (http://www.consumeraffairs.com/recalls04/aaarecalls_auto.htm) and input your information . Not sure the info you're looking for is there but should be a good place to start ! You may be able to get some info by calling the service manager at a local Chevrolet dealership ? A lot there will depend on that dealership's commitment to service - good luck !

with ther exact vehicle info given this is easy to determine.
with the miss fire when the warrantee ends this is the end on this item 99.999% of the time.
all vehicles have many recalls. safety issues are 90% of the time the recall. miss fires would not be in that area.
just with the very little info given by you I would check fuel pressure with a pressure guage and se if its normal.........

If you have a "saftey recall" on your vehicle, they do not expire. I don't know what year or model you are working on, but if its an older vehicle they will probably need to order parts.

Thanks for your precise answer, It's a 1996 Chevrolet Express 1500.

I ended up changing the spider CSFI system to a MPFI system and my van drives way better now and it's idling better too, another thing that i found out and it might be worth posting it here is that I was getting an egr valve code p1404 and mechanics were stumped since the valve was new, they took the computer harness and inspected every wire that went to the valve all connections as well and everything checked out good so, the mechanic seemed a little stumped and since i work on cars all the time i started checking to see what I could find, i knew it wasn't carbon build up since i changed the spider and plastic manifold and while at it cleaned all carbon out, it tuns out it was the egr was installed the wrong way, took it off new gasket and bingo code p1404 was no longer present. but NOW the problem i am having is an intermittent problem. i start the van it runs fine i drive and lets say i stop for gas or go to the store and i try to start it , it just cranks. I open the ignition switch and I don't hear the fuel pump priming so i won't even crank it, I keep doing the cycling of the ignition and then out of nowhere i will hear the pump priming and then it starts and runs fine. no engine codes are present.
Parts replaced:
Upper intake manifold
E.G.R Valve
2 Oxygen sensors
T.P.S Sensor
Cap,Rotor,wires and spark plugs
Catalyc converter
All areas of intake cleaned out including throttle body.
next thing i am buying is matches so i can set it on fire

with a vehicle this old the ignition switch could be defective.
you stated that the fuel pump is not running but when cycling the ignition sw on off then when you hear it running it starts..
your wiring and the pcm connectors checked the sw this old is highly suspect.
the ignition sw goes to the fuel pump relay coil. the contacts of this relay close when 12volts is on the relay coil . the contacts close supplying power to the fuel pump.
so the fuel pump relay would also be a good item to test or just replace as this too is beyond its time...
post back what you found.

I will, also when you open the ignition switch what does the computer check first so it can send a signal to the fuel pump relay. I read somewhere that it checks the crankshaft position sensor and if it doesn't check out it will not send a signal to the computer to prime the fuel pump circuit. I just don't want to replace parts as that's not the correct way of diagnosing a problem. whats the best way to check the ignition switch since its an intermittent problem.?

when you turn the key to ignition on the pcm computer does not check anything. when the engine is cranking or running this is when it starts looking at the ckp oil pressure and other items to control the engine. ignition on engine off its only power to the fuel pump relay coil then the contacts supply power to the fuel pump.
the relay should be replaced whenever the fuel pump fails. 1996 is most likely the age of this relay. well over do. most do not replace this until the vehiclle won't run ..
the ignition switch is also too old. depends on how you run this vehicle on that part. lots of short runs and starting this is worn out. I have seen these fail where the vehicle trys to start itself .This is when ak the switch springs get weak or break.
if you have a meter you can check this out . locate the relay and have the meter ready when it dies on you .
if I had a 1996 with high mileage I would not want to spend much to repair it. keep that burn idea .

It's one of those things were you spend money on it and it's not worth selling. Luckily i got this van basically free so i replaced a lot of things myself so there no labor involved besides my own time which i don't mind since i love woking on cars, (rather work on my vette lol) but anyhow, ok I will try the fuel pump relay like you said, I just hope i can get a quality one, the ones in Autozone I don't trust too much. I will let you know tomorrow, also, if this helps out, when i open the key I hear a click from the fuse panel located in the engine bay, now since i don't have anyone to open the ignition i can't tell if its another relay doing the clicking or the fuel pump relay clicking, i hear the click even if aim having the problem of no fuel pump priming.

the relay maybe clicking but if the contacts in the relay are worn you will get this problem.
scrap yard you can get a few relays to try out..with intermittent issues having a meter and a helper with this is the way to go.
