So I got this 89 dx real good shape has a replaced d15 with 89,000 miles on it so it will be a bit till I actually do it but what DOHC VTEC would be best for power and just overall would the k 20 out of the type s fit?

Yes the K20 will fit. But I think it's one of the more difficult swaps to do. I think you would be happy with any of the B-Series motors. I have a B16 and love it! If you want more power the B18C5 will fit, it's the type-r b-series. Or better yet you can build the Frankenstein motor (b18 block with a b16 head) that's my current project I'm hoping to have done for next year!

All depends on how much you want to spend. I'm not a fan of the mainstream builds and like the budget builds. Hondas can be cheap if you know what to look for. If its K series or VTEC, expect to pay more just because of those letters. Don't overlook the SOHC engines either just because they are SOHC, its easy to get 170-180+ at the wheels NA with one on pump gas and mostly stock parts.

I currently have a B18A1 in my hatch and I'm happy with it. Its stock, but it does what I want it to do, which was pull whatever I feel like throwing behind it(mostly my old dirt track car). I don't like VTEC because I don't think its worth the money people ask of it, not when its just a more aggressive cam lobe that hits at a certain RPM. If your building a purpose built motor, figure out what RPM range its going to spend most of its time in and get on the phone with a cam company.

But thats just me, everyone else loves VTEC.

I've had the same hatch for over 10 yrs, its been through everything from rice, car stereos, jack stands, and its current state where its more an Integra than a Civic. I've traded its good looks(same color glossy paint and full interior) for a better performing car. Eventually it may go back to one color, or I may leave it the way it is just to piss people off.

Sorry for the novel.

The more knowledge shared the merrier :smokin: what would be the best overall b - series to put in it an ITR or could a B20 outperform it stock vs stock I'm thinking the ITR but you guys are the experts. An H22?

It really does depend on how deep those pockets are and what you really plan to do with the car. With how light these cars are, it doesn't take much before it becomes too much(Yes I believe there is such a thing as too much)

Also, don't just toss parts at it because they are name brand and claim so much HP with just it. Everything needs to work together, the more you learn about each part of it, the more you will appreciate everything.

That's exactly the emphasis I want to put into this car because I think your exactly right with the too much concept since just slapping as many expensive parts with cool names into your car isn't wise since some parts won't hardly upgrade your performance or in some cases depending on how the car is tuned will decrease performance...

Oh and if I decide on a part the money probably won't be too huge of an issue

If thats the case, I do still take donations...even though no one has ever donated lol.

Amy is a good one to talk to on options, as she ran a shop for a couple years and has experience with importers and everything. Not to mention, she is atleast in the same state.

I'm good with the cheap low budget stuff. I picked up a 90 Integra for $600 and most of its parts are living in the hatch now: Engine, trans, and complete brake setup. Which is a huge improvement over the stock d15b2.
