Coolant leak

I have a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix with 91,000 miles. I have a small coolant leak just past the front passenger side tire. Are water pumps known to go bad in these cars? Is there a way I can check the water pump to see if its bad?

I've replaced a couple in my '97 GP but I guess it depends on which bran you choose for replacement.

All water pumps have a bleed hole with a seal just behind the pulley, when the seal goes bad coolant starts to leak through the bleed hole indicating the pump needs to be replaced. You'll need to take a close look at it in order to find out where the coolant is coming from.

The area you are describing sounds like water pump. If you have a inspection mirror you can use it to look under/ behind the water pump pully for a leak. Also check all hose clamps and around the intake gasket. If this has the belt tensioner that runs the heater hoses it, check the fittings in that also.

Agree with GM tech1....in addition to checking the weep hole on the w/p, check those plastic elbows to the tensioner assembly......
