Engine Swap?

Would it be possible to do an engine swap with a Subaru Justy AWD replacin the motor with either a Wrx motor or 2.5 rs, anyone try it?
I'm wonderin b/c i found a cheap Justy with no motor in it and its not hard to find a scrapped Wrx for cheap.

Well there's no doubt you could do it, but it'd be alot harder than you think to do. The Justy used an inline engine mounted transversley, while the WRX uses a horizontally opposed engine mounted longitudinally, the WRX engine wouldn't fit into the Justy - unless you modified the Justy to also use the WRX tranny (a whole lot of work.)

To add to the above statement (which I was about to say myself), putting the WRX's transmission (and rear driveline, most likely) would entail extreme modifications (not to mention the modifications needed to the Justy). The half shafts for the WRX would put the wheels outside of the Justy's wheelwells without making new shafts. If you spent a ton of money, the car might be interesting...but a TON of money would be necessary.

dude im sure that you can do it just take the rear of a wrx or something and put the engine in. trust me man there is a kid in my school that has made a honda civic into a RWD honda civic that has a toyota 20R engine in it.

Making a Civic RWD is not the same as putting a WRX engine in a Justy. The Justy is a tiny little car using a transversely mounted inline three cylinder engine. The WRX engine is quite wide and designed to be mounted longitudinally. I'm sure it wouldn't fit within the wheelwells if mounted the way it was designed and, if you were to try mounting it transversely, not only would you blow the transmission but you'd have to extend the front and probably have two cylinders mounted underneath the interior console.

Putting the rear of the WRX in the Justy would require all new bodywork because of the width of the Impreza (and the narrowness of the Justy). Also, you'd have to find a way to make the Subaru's transmission exclusively rear-wheel drive since if you mounted it to drive all four wheels (like it was designed), the engine would probably be ahead of the front bumper.

Trust me...it's hardly as simple as making a Civic RWD.

A far better and easier idea would be to put the WRX mechanisms into the old GL Hatchback, because it (unlike the Justy) already used a horizontally opposed engine, and certainly it'd be easier to fit the WRX engine into it! (and you'd have one hell of a sleeper too)

Yes...or in a BRAT!

You know it's a toss up, I liked both the Brat and the GL HB, saw a couple today at the junkyard (toyota needed a new blinker lens) The Brat is still a cool/freakish concept, but who doesn't like the backwards facing seats? (get a couple friends to sit back there and wave to the people losing the race!)

You're just making my idea sound better and better.

I'm new to the subaru family, although I've always been a fan. Along this line of thinking on the BRAT, will any boxer 4 bolt up to the 4 speed tranny? I'm considering swapping the 82 for an 82T. any thoughts??

EJ motor in a justy.. theres a guy in process of doing it now, but he had to lengthen the nose of the just a bit.. lots of fabrication.

EJ motor in a brat.. been done.. look at ausubaru.com, theres a couple there

EA82T in a brat, also been done. I have a friend that has a 78 brat with an EA82T in it.

EJ motor in an EA82 car, also done. I know someone with an 87 RX with a 94 or so JDM STi motor in it (EJ20G)

Check out www.ultimatesubaru.net lots of old school subaru info there.
