Hello all I am new to the GP group, I just picked up a 94 SE sedan. I love it. I have one problem that I am working on with the way the engine runs.. It seems to have a slight miss in the engine and the car vibrates on acceleration... If any one else has experienced this please advise, your help would be greatly appreciated... I have already changed the plus and wires and am in the process of playing with moving the coil packs around to see if one is bad, but haven't had time for that yet.. Please help...

It IS the coil packs going bad I had to replace both of mine when this happened

Um...Grand Prixs have 3 coil packs....so you must have only replaced 2 of the 3. :screwy:
Checking the coil packs is a good idea though. find one that you know is good, and do what it sounds like you planned on doing.

I'm having a similar problem. I have a 92 SE, and it hesitates going up hills or sometimes when accelerating. I took it to a trans shop and they told me it wasn't the transmission, but the engine hesitating or missing occasionally. Shortly after that, the check engine light would come on, so I had a diagnostic done. EGR systems failure... so it could be your EGR valve. I haven't had this fixed yet, so I don't know anything for sure, but I was told that a messed up EGR valve or component can make the engine run rough. It makes the car shake up hills and when accellerating because that is when the transmission is under load. I'm no mechanic, but I hope that helps.

What are the coil packs? I am having a similar problem like the person who owns the 92 SE. I own a 94 SE and just had the heads done cuz of blown head gaskets, then this hestitation come in to the problem. Any advice?

Put some new plugs and wires on and if that doesnt work then try the coil packs. The coil packs are what the othe end of your spark plug wires are connected too.

My Z-34 had problems with the EGR but this never caused it to hesitate. Maybe poor milage but running normal. Since this is an old car makes sense to change the spark plugs. There is a quick test you can perform on the cables and it will locate a burned cable, bend the cable in small sections and will brake on the burned part.
IF this is ok then the coils. Coils Packs are the parts that will create a high voltage to cause a spark on the plugs to burn up the fuel-air mixture on the piston chambers and conversly make them move down to transfer motion to the flywheel and conversly transaxle/wheels.

Thanks, I'll try that, but someone said it has 3 coel packs, new spark plugs & wires has been installed. According to research on the net, it state to check the EGR valve & it's not a cheap part either. It's sure a rought ride when going up hill or increasing speed.

When I replaced mine it costed me at least $150.00
it is easy to do, in my case the car did not gave me a rough ride. IT gave really bad mileage and resulted on a broken cable at the EGR pigtail

ON the net it cost from $247.00 - $269.00. I've replaced it once, about a year and a half ago, but after having blown head gaskets (due to water in oil) repaired, this start happening.

Maybe those are list prices. Sometimes they can do better than that. But wow they are expensive.
