For the past several months i have been having a hard time getting my truck to turn over. The starter does not click like a dead battery but more of a sluggish slow starter crank. It will crank very slowly for a few seconds (sometimes starting other times not) and then go completely dead. I can use a 500amp Jump pack and it will start just like normal no problems but im tired of having to do this every time i start the thing. I can drive for over 30 mins and shut it off and immedetly try to start it again and the same sluggish crank and possible no start until i use the jump pack. So far i have done these things
-Had the Alt and Battery tested OK
-Replaced both Positive and Negative Battery cables
-Cleaned all terminals on starter solenoid and ground on engine block
Starter does not seem to be the issue because it does just fine with the jump pack

Time to recheck battery and starter amp draw.
What engine?
Have you checked base timing?

It has the 3.4L in it. I have not checked the timing yet. Put a spare battery in this afternoon and seems to have corrected the problem but will not know till morning when i attempt to go to work.

4.3 V6
Let us know how it goes.
As in testing battery and starter and alt.
Always have them tested on truc.
Load test battery and check voltage
Check alternator output voltage and amps.
Check starter amp draw cold and hot.
All 3 have to work together and be good for a good start.
Good Luck

It ended up being the battery. I finally tested it right after trying to start and it had dropped below 10 volts. swapped it out with a spare battery for my mustang of all things and starts and runs fine. I've started it a half dozen times and have not needed to jump it so far. Thanks for the help guys
