with this poor cold start I would check again the fuel system pressures. could be the injectors are flooding the engine on shutdown.
could also be coolant entering the combustion chamber. check plugs when engine is cold . line up plugs and inspect for color and other visual diff.

Thanks - it's not really a cold start issue, I've discovered. More of just a start issue. The motor always runs rough (misfires) for that 8-10 seconds and then it's fine. I'll check the fuel pressure again.
