Jetta TDI in cold weather

I'm interested in buying a newer Jetta TDI (2007-2010?), but I'm starting a job up in North Dakota soon. Does anyone have experience with a deisel car in cold weather? I'm just wondering if there could be any issues starting the car, gelling, etc. Also, does it handle well in winter driving conditions? Any advice would be much appreciated.
