I started this kit since I am still waiting for the the Hartge H5-24 body to dry.
I can't stop doing models. It's so addicting.
I hate mold lines and the body had a lot. The mold lines on the tires was a pain.
It took a while to paint the chassis since the front part of the exhaust is not a separate piece.
Interior will be in German grey, dark sea grey and the seats in white.
The body is going to be painted in gold. :)

Chasis looks real clean. A few gold jobs hitting the board of late!! :D

Finished the interior and decided to see how it will fit the body.

To my surprise, the passenger side's fitting was poor to say the least, but driver side was fine. I thought that I was the one to blame and measured the the height for both sides and they are the same.
Is this typical for a Fujimi kit?
How do you solve this type of problem? :(
To add to my frustration, there were gaps that needed to be filled with putty too.

??? strange thing you 've got there...

Maybe you could either cut a part out of the door or just lower the right peg where teh interior tub sits on teh chassis and then re-measure it !

Nice thing is you 've noticed these impureties at this moment, so you got the time to remake it!

Can someone tell me what happened here? :(
I put the can in hot water and then shake it really well like always, but this is what I got.
I used Tamiya TS-21 Gold.

Is the area smooth?, if it is, Maybe there was too much thinner in that area

The model kit seems to be coming along nicely!

Looks like the area was sprayed too wet/heavy at one time and the metallic particles separated. Let it dry, and then carefully mist on a couple more coats for it to even out. Your clearcoat is what needs to be ultra-smooth, the gold (being a base coat) can have some slight texture to it, to even out the metallic particles.

Jonno, the trouble area looks smooth. The paint is still wet so I don't want to touch it.

ZoomZoomMX-5, I think you are right about the metallic particles. It looks dark at some angles and shiny at others.

Another question.
I kept spraying on the same area trying to cover it with another coat of paint. In the end I think I got 6 coats on it. As a result some details are gone. What do you guys/gals do to fix this and get the details back? I know sanding it will probalby work, but what about getting back panel lines?

Yep, too much paint at one time. Fills in panel lines, makes metallic particles separate.

You can try to use a sharp-pointed scribing tool (Squadron makes a good one) to rescribe the panel lines, but it can be risky if the paint chips off, and the paint needs to be very dry. If you can get a set of curved riffler files, the triangular-section file works well in conjunction w/a pointed scribing tool. You might want to try that on a couple areas, or you might have to strip off the paint if it chips. Polly S easy lift off remover, or automotive brake fluid work on Tamiya sprays. I like to rescribe lines when the model is in the primer stage, primer and plastic are easier to scribe than gloss paint.

I let the paint job dry for 2 weeks, sanded and applied a few really light coats of gold and clear as suggested. Thanks! :bigthumb:
Here it is waiting for polishing.

Great save, having patience, asking questions, and following through have made a huge difference. It looks great, and you know many guys would have stripped that paint off instead of calming down and looking at their options.

Now let it sit a couple weeks before clearcoating, or if you can't wait that long, mist on a bit more of the gold first then start immediately (slowly) adding clear in thin coats. Lookin' good so far

You did a fantastic and very clear work as usual...
I love the finish and the great quality of the pics...
Awesome...

P.S:I think that the 928 is more aggresive with the lights closed...ans specially with the Koenig I thinks it helps to keep a more aggresive look...However you did such a great job and this is just a small detail(and something that has to do with your personal taste...)

Great work

Nice gold, and awesome model! I'm curious, what did you do about the gap between the body and interior panels?

Cychalen
06-28-2003, 09:11 PM
Glad to hear that you all like the outcome and thanks for the compliments.

Honoturtle, as mentioned earlier, the interior is fine and leveled so I knew that something else was causing the problem.
I don't know how you call this part, (Can someone tell me?) but this was the problematic part. There was too much plastic on the lower part of of the knob (Fujimi:shakehead) and it caused the body to lean on the passenger side. I shaved off a little bit of plastic and now it is fine.
No hacking/cutting involved.
