Engine Temperature gauge

Hello, I have a problem with my engine temperature gauge not reading on the dash. I was thinking about just replacing the ECT sensor in attempt to resolve the issue. I’m afraid to spend an enormous amount of money on the sensor and it may not correct the issue. I would like to know how can I fix this problem?

The first place to start is with the sensor. If the gauge isn't working it may be an issue with the sensor or the wiring to the sensor. They are not that expensive nor are they hard to replace. It will just take a little time.

How do I go about replacing the ECT sensor? I’m assuming just unplugging the wire hardness that is attached to the sensor and unscrewing the sensor out; am I correct? Please advise.

That's correct, but you will need to partially drain the coolant in order to bring the level lower than the ECT hole in the block. If you don't coolant will spill out while you remove the ect.

The new sensor should come with sealant on the threads but in case it doesn't you can use some teflon tape ensuring some of the threads make contact with the block.

Actually, don't use standard teflon tape on the threads, as the sensor grounds itself to the block and teflon tape will cause a bad ground. You should use electrically conductive thread sealant compound if the new sensor doesn't have it pre-applied on the threads.
