Hello. My check engine light came on, so I took it to a Parts house and their scanner said shift Solenoid "A" is faulty. Anyway, where is this located ? I know It is inside the pan, but there are two of them and I want to replace the correct one. The truck is a 1/2 ton. Thanks!!

4L60-E?????,,,,,,2nd gear acting up????? the shift solenoids are interchangable,,,I would just swap them,,,see if code changes,,,..they are the 2 on the back of the valve body (the square ones)....my bet is on the reverse reaction shell failing!!!!!

It's a 4wd with the 5.3. I was told that it is shift solenoid "A". I can hear it making a clicking sound. I didn't notice it doing anything out of the ordinary, but didn't really hammer on it either. Thanks

this part is in the valve body. there are 2 of these side by side. they have a clip that holds them in place. they are spring loaded so remove the 2 wires to it and push on it slightly when pulling the locking clip.

normally these are replaced together/ both at this time.

make sure the fluid is not contaminated with particles. If you find alot of material in the filter/pan bottom you will need more repairs.

you will use dexron VI. do not use the defective DEXRON III which is now no longer licensed by GM. this was determined to cause these transmissions to fail.

back 10 years ago there was alot of these soleniods defective.manufacturing defects..since it has been working this long it may mean more problems ..these parts are cheap see what happens. you may luck out ..

sometimes this occurs when the pan drop knocks off the wires to them . then the transmission don't shift correctly after the fluid pan filter servicing.

Thanks again for the help. I replaced both solenoids and things are back to normal, I drove it to work today.
