hello everybody,

I'm coming back today with a new WIP.
Well, actually, this Porsche will be rusty and muddy...

:icon16::icon16::icon16: Iknow, I know, many people will say "NO !!!!" a such beautiful car must be treated with respect... And so will I do... Actually, that car is really one of my favorite car and I do like it... I wanted to make that car since long time ago but never get the nuts to start it, and never know how to make it...

Now it's beginning... I started it and really want to finish it... I really like cars (model kits) who had some life. So I will try my best to make this Porsche 356 as nice as I can, even if it will be rusty and muddy...

and the car, primered (except front hood)

Then I sprayed a frist mist coat of black mat... to get and old paint aspect, I will not cover totally the car with paint, but at this point, this is not final coat...

I tryfitted the PE parts, but there are too small :crying::crying::crying::crying:

What kind of 356 is your kit?

I tried my parts now just for double check (first time I heard the trouble on houndreds kits sold...) and part are still perfect of the 3 kits I got: twin grid on the hard top 1600 cabrio, mono-grill on the speedster and the Carrera 2000 coupè... any part has a small (a copule 1/10 mm or more) overlap on the plastic hole, so PE is bigger than the hole to allow you to glue properly.... I'll take shot tomorrow singe I got camera discharged righ now....

Anyway:

-great subjet
-great idea, I'm really interested to see a rusted 356, I like so much this

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-smbhYiPJVBo/To3HGC9HmAI/AAAAAAAAAmI/et3Y40ZD_IA/s600/35687.jpg

fantastic, much art jobs to do: I'll say it is job for JTRacing ;)

-Finally, it's great to see someone using my stuff, I guess I never seen one yet :D

Hi everybody and thanks for your comments
The kit is fujimi Porsche 356 b/c carrera 2 .
For PE parts, the parts seems Nice but with a small different size with my kit. Specially the grid part which is about 1 mm top small. I ' ll post you pics soon
For the rust I have bad news as i think the vendor did not give me the correct paint, because when i applied instant rust, i had no réaction :headshake :headshake:headshake

I ll go back in m'y store soon to get more information and correct paint.

Chilly b, your Porsche looks awesome, did you make a wip and do you mind give me link?

I ll come back soon with news

The kit is fujimi Porsche 356 b/c carrera 2 .

Here we are: years passed since I designed the set, so I done a fit test on the 3 P356 kits I own: single and twin grill fit perfect: kits are the following:

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/varie/DSC_0029-1.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/varie/hardtop.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/varie/coup.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c159/gionc/varie/speedy.jpg

Sorry I assumed that the Carrera2 2K coupè would have same grill than the hardtop one.... but looks like it isn't so... :runaround:

I did not do a WIP with my 356. I've just been using it to practice rust techniques. I've been thinking of trying to use it in some kind of diorama but haven't gotten very far with the project. Here's another shot:

Hi everybody...

Some more progress for now...Iapplied the last black mat paint coat and started to put some silver color for rusting the car...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CfpRLdtj4WM/TpMG2ouVmOI/AAAAAAAAAnw/X-Fqllwi5Ek/s720/DSCF3102.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oC0fj79jV9E/TpMG3qP94zI/AAAAAAAAAn0/mnjecXz8G8U/s640/DSCF3103.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-MqwqSkfXRwY/TpMG6n1cBgI/AAAAAAAAAoA/j4_o3eM9H1o/s576/DSCF3107.JPG

But as I told you before,I think I get fooled by the vendor because when I applied the Instant rust on it, there was no reaction... I think he just sold me some silver color paint and not metallic paint :crying::crying::crying:

Anyway, until I go back in the store to ask him why I do not have any rust results, I started weathering the car...

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-tQMM1HswSg8/TpMG-QEN34I/AAAAAAAAAoQ/HjO5FSC5Uls/s640/DSCF3111.JPG

I'm actually moving to another city and I think I forgot these pieces in my old apartment, so I'll have to wait to get all cartons open to find back the missing pieces.... Thanksfully this kit will provide me lot of other pieces to work on !!!!

What brand you used?

I used that paint:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-pgwd74RzFF0/TqE8A-6QHOI/AAAAAAAAArk/BwPQag9kTtE/s640/DSCF3199.JPG

it's a french paint from hypermarket... not so good to make real chrome paint but quite nice for metalic parts. BTW, the engine is also painted with that paint, but as I put my fingers on it several times, it becames a little less shiny. Anyway, all parts will have some weathering in time.

I find some english licences plates here, on a Mercedes 560 SEC revell kit... I will use it for my porsche, and also will use the "GB" enblem.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-MDImQhXU74I/TqAk6nWsSMI/AAAAAAAAArU/avRDqllD7Ao/s640/DSCF3197.JPG

I put the engine in place and test fitted the trunk, seems to be a small problem, I will check later because I'm not sure the correct place of engine without all parts...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hKJo1KjZl94/TqAk55pz4WI/AAAAAAAAArQ/syygdet0jww/s640/DSCF3194.JPG

Front direction and suspension is now in place...

I'm a little late for the party and really liking this. It's about time a Porsche got the rust treatment, especially using the excellent 356 kit.

It looks like the rust technique you were using involves one of those using real iron pigment paint. The one I'm familiar with is Sophisticated Finishes. If I'm wrong, just ignore me. This works best if the body is placed in a plastic bag after applying the top coat that causes the rusting. I get very little reaction when I leave it out in the aid to dry. What you were experiencing looked similar.

yes, that's this kind of product I used, the brand I found in my country is "modern option", but this is the same kind of product.

2 bottles , one in silver plate base coat and one called "instant rust antiquing solution".

I used the same technics as you described, put some silver base coat on the kit, then I wait it dry and put some instant rust liquid on the parts... Then I put the pieces in a plastic bag (but I don't know if you have to wrap the pieces in bag or if you have to just put pieces in a bag and let some air inside the bag)

What I did is to wrap the pieces in bag and closed it.

but it didn't work, I don't know why...I'll try again later but I'm not sure can get some results...

here are some few pics for update...

I too have had a hit or miss result from this technique. I see we are both using the exact same method to apply it. The silver paint is pretty thick an it makes me wonder it it didn't get mixed thoroughly or it getting too old.

For reference, this is an exhaust done this way that came out as I wanted it. The bumps were also the result of the reaction as was the color variance.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc105/Foxerjr/83%20GMC%20Van/exhaust2DSC_7538.jpg

I can see subtle rust on your Porsche which comes off as nice weathering.

I finally give up the special paint for rust and did it myself, with enamel paint and cristal sugar to get a small rust effect...

a closer picture...color seems a little bit to brown for me, but the cristal sugar make it quite nice!
