The 4X4 switch has 2WD, Auto 4WD, 4WD High and 4WD Low. When I use any of them, shouldn't there be an indicator light lit up on the dash? There never has been in one of those modes. I haven't used 4WD Low, but I know when I've been in 4WD High that it was working from the feel in the steering on turns. You can't mistake that for being in 2WD. I've seen lights for the indicators light up at startup, so I know they are there and not burned out. Is the indicator light feed from the dash switch or from the transfer case or from somewhere else that I should check?

I would try from the transfer case, most of the time when it is engage it should trigger the sensor.
