What should i buy?

im am currently in the market for some high quality subwoofers, and 1 amp, what ive been looking at for an amp is a Rockford Fosgate 1200 watt mono channel. Im not looking to amp the rest of the system, just the subs. but the subs, im not sure what to get. i want a clean cut off and clean sound, while being able to crank it up and put the kids with their THUMP! speakers to shame. any suggestions?

I like the sound of the Apline Type R's myself. The 12 Inch ones are killer. I noticed u r in Hillsboro, OR. I am from the Portland Area too. go talk to a guy named Paul at Stereo King on Canyon Road near 217. He knows his stuff. Dont waste your time talkin anyone esle there , and dont waste ur time going to another location. Paul knows his stuff, and everyone else there or at other stores or loctation is full of sh*t. But me, I like the Type R's. Not sure on amps though. Hope this helps a little.

well, you can't go wrong with rockford fosgate amps, I tend to like Bazooka subwoofers, not only cause I own one, but they've been making subs for quite a while, and they make quality stuff..

Yea, Bazooka subs arn't bad, and fosgate does make some good amps. I have always been partical to the Apline Type-R's though. Always wanted em. I actually would have them, but a year and a halfago the day after thanksgiving, I got a killer deal on some MTX thunder 4000's. $80 for 2 12" subs, plus box, installed. I figured $80 for 200 rms and 400 peak wasnt bad. and I got a 500 watt amp on sale for $150, got it put in for $30. It wasnt the greatest, but it was a good amp for the subs I had got. Someday I'll get those type-r's and a new amp. But heck, $230 dollars for all that crap installed, new? that was a killer deal. my current set-up never gave me any trouble, and it doesn't sound bad, other than the body rattle from the trunk (can't afford dynamat). Still not the same as those type-r's though, lol.

If you can find some at a dealer, go with 12" Memphis HP's and the Memphis 1000D Mono Amp. My cousin had this setup in his truck and it hit harder than most 15" I've heard. I was in my truck with my two 10" going about as high as I could and he parked 10 ft away from my truck. I could feel his stereo blasting over mine, and I was inside my truck.

well 15's are meant to produce the deeper bass that your 10's and 12's can't reproduce, unless you plan to blow them... 10's and 12's give a punchier bass, and are a hell of a lot easier to place in your car than a 15 inch monstrosity..

Yea, a couple 12's in the trunk and an amp already takes up half my trunk, lol. 15's in there would leave me with no space. Although, what do u think about like 2 12" alpine-type-r's or another good sub on each side of the trunk, in sub-enclosers fiberglass molded in, and a 15 in a spare tire well encloser. Would that be too much? would it be better just to stay with 2 or 3 12's? I have a 92-civic 4 door, if that helps. I'm still tryin to figure out the direction I should go with my trunk, so until then I'll just live with my 2 12" MTX's.

you can, but I suggest you plexi over the 15 if you put it in the spare tire spot..aiming that sucker upwards towards your trunk lid is the best as far as I'm concerned, and it still allows you the space besides the 12's on the sides, if you mold them, but if you do want a 15 in there I highly recommend you get dynamat or you're gonna rattle down the street. and hiding your amps underneath the rear seats is a prime spot for them. usually that's where most installers place them, finding custom fiberglass enclosures will be a bitch to get though, and god help you if you get a flat and don't have a cell or AAA... tell me if you find anyone who makes custom fiberglass enclosures, I want to get 2 8" triangle bazooka subs and put them in the sides of my car as well, I can find another spot for the jack.. hiding them in the spare bay is about the only place where you can hide them, unless you go all out and mount them under the seats (kinda dumb because you spent all this money on quality subs and you can't really show them off, not to mention they'd be a bitch to fit) I'm figuring custom enclosures should'nt cost more than $250 for a pair (comparing kickpanels from crutchfeild).. but you'll probably have to paint and/or carpet them...

Yea. I am not sure where to buy custom fiberglass enclosers at this time. Stereo shops will charge a buttload. I had a friend who worked in custom stereo installation for 3 or 5 years. He was gonna do it all for free this summer for me, after auto college was out for the summer. But his cell got disconected, so I'll have to start lookin for another way again. If you find a place, let me know. I'm look to. I may have one friend I havent talked to in ages who could do it, but I doubt I'd wanna pay his price. He's outta car stereos as a bussines now, since he has a wife and 3 kids. I suppose you could build a box, then fiberglass mold all over and around it. Sure, it'd be heavier, but it would look like a custom fiberglass box. Yea, you'd have to carpet or paint it though. Vinyl looks pretty tight too.

well, i drive a muscle car, so space isnt really an issues (with 10 inch and 12 inch subs). i was turned on by the kicker S-10 L5's. a friend of mine took third in the world sound competition with those. Anyone know anything about them? from what ive read, they pretty much destroy anything else out there. stereo king is the only place i can get them from, however, the last time i was there they didnt seem like they wanted my money. However i didnt know what i wanted either.

well that's the same if you go to any install shop, they want you to buy the components, and have them install the entire setup as a package so they can charge you more. they also look skeptical at kids (excuse me young adults) looking for a sub/system in their car. They think we don't have the money...

Dude, Talk to Paul at the Beaverton Stereo King, just off 217 on Cayon Rd. He's cool, everyone ther is a dick. He's the store mananger. He's always been real helpful and cool with me. Just tell him your intentions and what your lookin for, he should work with you. He's always been cool to me when I've been in there. MOst of the other people and shops are like killa_xft said, they just look skeptical at you, and are jerks. Paul even tried to help explain to me how to do fiberglass molding for my trunk, since I'm wouldn't have it done professionally till I get better subs. If he doesnt help you, I am not sure what to say.

its the sad but true tales of car stereo peeps...

i have a feeling this time though that ill be better off since i know what i want and how i want it done.

yea. I got in a spinning accident on the 26/217 interchange at 80 mph and did a 540 into oncomming traffic. Some asshole was trying to start a wreck in his nissan truck. i saved the car, but stalled it going 80 and seized the tranny. it still drives and everything, but not very well.

im going to be building her a new slant six, tranny, and rear end, new paint job, and some custom body and interior work. once i get my parts truck out of my shop, my car is moving in and the work is gonna begin

That sucks bout the 26/217 spinout. At least you saved the car. I got rear-ended out at canyon rd and lombard near the beaverton TC in October, it was a nightmare. Yea, Honda ppl are pretty good with sound. But hey, it doesnt matter what u drive, u know? They are all cars (or trunks). And if you love em, thats good enough. It's all about the love of the hobby, so to me, it doesnt matter if your a honda, ford, dodge, etc guy. I personally drive a honda, but its all good. Boy, I hope I didnt open up a pandora's box by sayin that above, lol.

well too bad you guys live so far away cause i do custom audio and i could do the fiberglass side panels in the trunk but i live in mississippi so i dont think i can help yall.........oh and also when building a box for subs if the required air space is say for example .50 cubic feet, to make those twelves have the deep bass like a 15 make the box 1.5 cubic feet per chamber enclosed....

is there a formula for it? or is it pretty easy to figure out? and, should i use bandpasses for this? i have a max of 12 inches of space up and down and about 4 feet across. with 12 inches to width. its where my spare tire goes and its right behind the back seat.

Candlaudio, I think my subs require 1.25 cubic feet. I have a forumla for how to build a box with the proper space somewhere, but what abou to do what you were sayin?
