Power Steering Pump Mowns

I have a power steering pump that makes a mowning noise when turning. Normally this means your fluid is low, but mine is full. Is it possible the reservoir is clogged not allowing fluid into the pump? When you take the cover off the reservoir the fluid is frothy so you know the pump is cavitating.

Any other ideas of the issue?

If that fluid is frothy, you have a leak somewhere, because you have air in the system....

Agreed, but if there was a leak in the system wouldn't the level in the reservoir decrease? It maintains the same level.

You for sure have a leak, look for seepage around lines, pump shaft seal and steering gear stub shaft seal. Just because its not leaking enough for you to see a level drop, does not mean it cannot pull air into the system from the leaking area.

I also have this problem with my power steering, but it only makes that moaning noise when it's cold outside. Once it warms up to a decent temperature, say 35 or above, it stops. Today it's really cold outside, around 15 degrees, so it's moaning loudly and the fluid is frothy. Yet in the summer you'd never know you have a problem. Any ideas? :confused:
