Another Electric ,Fan conversion post

Hey guys,

I know there have been a lot of posts on this, but I can't find the answer to my question in any of them. I'm going to use this kit (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-890015/) from summit racing to do my electric fan conversion on my 1990 C1500. Trouble is, I'm not sure where to stick the thermostatic switch. Do I need to drill or is there already a fitting for it?

BTW I know a lot of people have said don't go electric but I'm not doing any serious towing plus the engine is a 305. I'm picking up an electric fan from the junkyard for $15.

You're going to spend $60 plus your labor to downgrade your cooling system???

What, exactly, do you think is wrong with the fan/clutch system you already have?

the electric fan would need both temp control and vehicle speed control. the alternator must have excess amp capacity to drive the fan. also the fan blades must fit correctly to the fan shroud.

taping into the thermostat goose neck is where this should be on the temp sensor.

as you have read much about this most have used a complete gm electric fan setup.fans ,shrouds with the temp and speed control thru relays.

In the hot 100deg f plus areas mounting a manual controlled fan on the front of the condenser/radiator to push air in is used in addition to the oem fan .this keeps the ac working great and drops engine temps in traffic over 100deg f ..

aftermarket fans are not long lasting..the GM fan could draw 20 amps more current about 240 watts of power approx..

Haha! I knew this would stir people up. Well I wasn't hoping for more power as much as better fuel economy. I was watching Xtreme 4x4 the other day and they did this for a '96 Ram 1500 and it produced a 1.5 mpg increase. I figure why not? Plus it'll be quieter than the manual fan? Tell me if I'm off my rocker here...

the alternator does not produce free power...this eats away at HP/MPG..more amps lowers these..

with your engine in that vehicle in your area I would install a 10,oooLB transmission cooler..this will lower the heat generated and should improve power and MPG in the summer...

the claim of 1.5 mpg gain is B/S!

The 305 cu also sucks up lots of fuel ..I still have one...and in a camaro. best MPG I got was 16 MPG..this was when it was new..

4 barrel carb..

305 cu is a GM cheap piece of crap ! very poor quality ...

Plus it'll be quieter than the manual fan?
Does your fan clutch work properly?
