need help with a b16 trans doghouse

I Just got a 94 del sol I have had a lot of hondas but never a b series. My first day with it the diff in the trans exploded. I bought another trans, well it needed shift forks. I put them in. It all looks right and moves right. But I can't get the doghouse (case) back on. It stops about 1/2 inch from the snap ring. Are their any tricks I need to know.

This manual is for a '96-'00 Civic, but the '99-'00 Civic has the B16A2 too. The info you'll need should start somewhere around page 625 (Section 13-45).
