How does one disconnect GM's OnStar?

My vehicle came OnStar enabled and free for one year. I found the service to be of no use to me and discontinued it after the year. If one reads the Privacy Policy of OnStar, it USED to say the information collected will be kept private. They have now changed to indicating they will collect location, where you have been, speed, seat belt use, etc. etc. AND will SELL the information. Even if you do not pay for the service, the vehicles is still pumping the data to OnStar. Frankly I don't give a hoot what they know about me in regards to my vehicle habits, it just galls me than they are now going to sell my information. I want nothing to do with it. How can I disconnect OnStar without any negative effect on the vehicle operation. The unit is in the trunk I believe...just disconnect all wiring???

Thanks.

Pull the antenna cable. They can't sell any data that they cannot collect. I'm not sure if the module HAS to be on the CAN bus to communicate with other modules but you can try to disconnect the connectors and see what happens.

Just waiting for the class action lawsuit...

Good idea. Antenna pulled.
Thank you.
Yes, I think there will be some outcry over this.

That OnStar is creepy. I sold GM's until they crashed the market and sold out, but there was one thing that bothered me. On a new car lot a car might sit for quite awhile before it's sold, due to a strange color, odd trim/color combo, overstocking, or just karma. Sometimes the battery goes dead by someone showing it to a customer and leaving a light on or from just sitting with all that current flowing. Even after all that time and with several jumps, you could walk up to that car, press that button and get an immediate response. Wayyyy too much invasion for my peace of mind.
Add to that those commercials that have people on your radio crying about dire situations that have no place in a commercial and it's enough for me.
I sold them, and the people that bought them had no problems with it, but my demo's were ALWAYS older, pre-OnStar models.
I hope the fix works for you.
