can someone help with this problem? my husband did a tune up on my daughters used 1997 jetta gls, and needed to disconnect the battery for a minute. when he was finished, the radio was electronically locked. we followed the directions to unlock it and used the code that came with the original buyers manual, but apparently it has been recoded because that code does not work. how can we find out the new code, or reset it ourselves? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks so much.

You might have to call the phone # on the card with the code to find out what the problem is.

i had the same problem and i had to pay the dealer $40 to turn it back on. all i know is that ya gotta hold two buttons, mode and the one below it, when ya input the code

I had a problem with my radio after some work was done on it as well....I called the dealer to get code..and even that didn't work  I had to take it to a radio shop and pay $100 just for them to tell me wires were not reconnected properly!! I was not happy!!!! :zx11pisse:

thanks for the commiserating, guys. my husband talked to a guy who owns a body shop near us and this is what he did...(with the original code card, mind you) he simply took the radio out, disconnected the wires, waited a minute and plugged the wires back in. Then, to enter the code, you couldnt just punch in the 4 numbers, such as 1865, you had to punch the 1 one time, the 8 eight times, the 6 six times and the 5 five times! he charged us nothing, probably because we've given him so much business over the years! if we didn't have the original card we would have had to take the radio out to get the serial numbers off the back and have a dealer or licensed auto repair person contact volkswagen to get the code.

is this just so if someone steals it it will be useless to them? because, i mean, its gone either way, so their not being able to play it is no help to me. i think i'll just buy her an aftermarket stereo for christmas!

oh well, thanks again for all the suggestions, i hope this post can help someone else.
