My car (1996 Infiniti i30) was rearended. Couple days later while I was on highway and started accelerating, the speedometer arrow slowly went down (car was shaking) and then engine died. P0100 and P0325 :frown:! Do you think this could happened because of the accident? Can transmission problems cause these codes? Help anybody:banghead:

Sometimes the code lottery hits related numbers: here the MAF problem code P0100 may or may not fit the symptoms. P0325 KS can be true but wont kill engine, performance '20%' poorer.

All depends what happened in the accident; if rear end is missing, surely engine will die at sm point...

Btw. Where did u get that code from?

Is engine still dead? If MAF kills it, unplugging (test) will help engine to start and rev up to 2.2k rpm ceiling.

Mileage?

Thanks a lot for answer!!! I got those codes from ECM by performing self-troubleshooting . I can start engine, it runs at idle speed and transmission in "P" position with no problem. But as soon as I put "D" and try to accelerate (may be up to 40mph), car starts shaking, speedometer arrow goes slowly down, car stops and engine dies. MAF showes 1.1V at ~800rpm and 2.5V at ~4000rpm. Car has 156000. Can the knock sensor be killed by the accident?

MAF: Very likely MAF is the culprit. Accident has 'nothin' to do with it... Nothin=Dunno the circumstances and the acceleration MAF received... Test by unplugging the MAF connector, your current symptoms will disappear. If so, get new MAF. 50-100$. Lowest I have seen was 40$ for new non-Nissan-labeled MAF. U may try cleaning the element (see linky page9) though I guess no hlp.

As said, with unplugged MAF the engine will sit in "safe-mode" meaning rev up to 2.2k rpm ceiling. Cant get speeding tickets, alas more rearendings...

Ten year ol KS is probably dead: it sits 'deep' in the engine. Std replacement in VQ is time consuming folks say, thus costly. Some folks have made their own [NON NISSAN] tool and claim half an hour job to replace. See linky page9 below how I bypassed the KS altogether with 1c resistor ... bybass is valid to your model also within the mentioned hig octane need -limitation. This fast DIY bypass has been ok since -05... At least its a valid way to test if its really faulty: you will feel the difference!

Bad KS means retarded ign = poor mileage, lazy engine etc...

Thanks a lot! I am fresh car-man, so I have a lot of questions.:iceslolan I`ll try all tests.
I found only one KS that located on the engine block below throttle body. Do I have other KS? It sems to be not too difficult to remove this one. Do you think problems with vacuum or O2 sensor may cause low MAF voltage? If ODBII does not show any codes for vacuum sensors, the vac. line is OK? Do you think bad shocks may cause KS malfunction?

Try to dow n load the m a n u al ... I guess one site still 'works'.

One KS.

KS is a pre-tensioned 'kids toy speaker' ...tension 'dies' of old age. Try DIY repair? Yes, replace shocks and stop sailing, get better traction and half your stopping range ... however, no effect on KS.

MAF voltages are ok, I guess it hangs up intermittently and that moment voltage is not what u measured... one way to test is to attach a jump wire into cabin, use the dmm while driving ... and watching the MAF voltage as things happen. Or pick the MAF-signal from ECU (beside gas pedal).
Voltage levels on most of the signals is 0 -to-5 volts. Very stupid and prone to drop b/c of connector oxidation. The MAF top voltage gives out air volume, yours is well below 200 ... compare to mine, near four volts meaning over 250hp. Figure out that... :)
Btw. Engine works MAF disconnected - only if TPS is ok.

Vac line hoses will start leaking after ten yrs, read my CDomain site through. Never trust OBDII, always seek for the truth uself while using it as a dog waiting to escape...
