Found gasket pieces in Radiator after overheating

I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE with 3.3 Today the engine overheated and when it finally cooled down some to put water back in it came back bubbling out and a few pieces of rubberish gasket was in the top of the radiator. I assumed it was to big to go thru the water ways but maybe not. Anyone have any clues to what it could be from?

That is some of the crap that is blocking your cooling system which needs to be properly flushed and then refilled. With any luck you have not done any permanent damage, but do not delay getting the cooling system serviced ASAP.

This morning I went to put water in it and it is like it does not want to take water. You can pour maybe a coffe cup at a time and you have to let it go down before you can add more. And I know it should be dry of water since it overheated yesterday like it did. You can not just turn the jug up and let it empty into it. It aslo a nasty gooy brownish stuff in the radiator that has been there for 2 years and I had never had a overheating problem before. There is no water in the oil. I feel I just need another clean radiator and maybe a thermostat. Put one in last year though. Oh well if it is not one thing it is another with these stupid vans.

You have had nasty goo in the radiator for 2 years and you are blaming the van for the problem? No offense, but that was the signal to do a proper coolant flush/change 2 years ago and now any problem you do have is due to your neglect.

Oh thank you oh so much for your helpful reply. The radiator has been flushed a few times and I did not have the knowledge to know the gunk in it was being caused by trans fluid getting into the radiator.. New radiator and the problem is now solved!!!!!!!!!!
