turn key on/off mutliple times before it starts

I have a 2000 626 and sometimes (not always) I have to turn the key on/off multiple times before it starts? I usually do it fast until I hear it starting then hold it.... Is this a telltale sign of a specific problem or could it be a few different things?

Sounds a lot like the ignition switch has failed.
If you hear a clicking noise from the engine when you turn the key however, it will be the starter motor solenoid :)

MY Mothers is doing the same thing! I have replaced the coil,Ignition switch as posts I have written here about the problem.After you turn the key back and forth many times it with SOMETIME START.Thats why I replaced the Ignition switch that is real easy to replace but that wasnt the problem.When I hear the fuel pump buzzing it will start if not it wont.Let me know if you get yours figured out please.
