2002 Caravan: Transmission filter replacement

Well, it looks like the transmission in the old van is either going out, needs something replaced, or I need a new ride. I was just wondering how hard is it going to be to get to the transmission filter, and is it even worth it?

How is the Van acting? Slipping? Engine revving between gears? Won't shift into top gears? How many miles does the transmission and Van have on it. There are a bunch of problems with these transmissions that are electrical rather than the transmission internals. You may want to review earlier posts on transmission trouble with Chrysler Corp. Mini Vans to get some more ideas about what may be happening. I have a 99 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 195,000 miles on it with the original transmission working great. At about 67,000 miles it went into "limp mode" and I thought the transmission had given up. It turned out to be a $37.00 shifting solenoid. Watch the repair shops, apparently many, including some Chrysler dealers will charge you $2500.00 and put on a relative inexpensive part to "rebuild" your transmission.

Speed sensors are also a frequent issue. $15 each to replace

A Shifting Solenoid? I don't have a clue what that is. I definitely to need to search the boards. hmmm. Well, speed sensors sounds like a good possibility also. I guess I should replace both of them.

The van is shifting fine up to 3rd gear, and then it has to be revved really high to get it to 4th. Once it does finally shift, it almost feels like it's skipping a gear. Also, when taking off in 1st gear it takes the transmission a minute to engage. Thanks.
