looked up carfax for a vehicle states "collision with another vehicle"
owner says a chunk of ice fell on car damaging windshield and just scratching the top hood no other
damage sustained and says he has receipts from collision shop. he says if he didn't have the car towed it
wouldn't even show up on the carfax..
Q- does carfax always report "collision with another vehicle" when damage is sustained to the vehicle ?
or would it say something like"windshield damage"

I've not used Carfax myself, but I would check on their website for a help section that might explain things in greater detail.
The reason I say this is, when I think "collision with another vehicle," I think exactly what the info says. If there isn't another car involved, I don't see why there would be a need to say such a thing - towed or not.

Considering that the windsheild is a integral part of the structure of the roof of the car, it is likely to be referred to as damage only, and included in roof damage due to being in direct contact. Definitely contact www.carfax.com (http://www.carfax.com), to verify the intricate details.

Hmmm, guess I may learn something new here because I have never come across an Insurance claim based on a vehicle being towed.
Whatever happened there was an Insurance provider involved for carfax to obtain the report, if it was a few hundered dollars it should be listed as minor accident.
Owner Says " blah blah blah " please,,, your not dealing with mother Teresa here, but a guy trying to sell a car,,, Pay a few dollars and take vehicle for an independent inspection, but keep in mind there will always be a cloud hanging over the car for resale no matter how minor.
Here is a link that may give you a few pointers about accident repair http://www.usedcartips.org/ACCID.html
