Poll! Manual Vs. Auto

Just made a poll here see what you 4g'ers are feeling.

Defenatly yo, Auto sucks!!! i drove my 88DX which was auto for a year, and got my 90 SI in stick cause it only comes in stick and i loved it, and now i drive my beater car which i will not say what which is AUTO, but i am building up my 91DX w/ a GSR motor that will be great!

Auto is really boring,.... i feel one with the car when i drive a MT

i like my huffy :D

Yeah, if you drive auto it takes away all the fun of shifting

Where I live, none of the racers know how to snapchange properly, so everytime they push their clutch to change gear, I leave them behind.

But every once in a while, some guy does know how to snapchange, and then we stay nose to nose till the next light.:smoker:

some guys get upset when they see they've been spanked by an auto:flipa:

you have to be a pretty crummy driver if u cant break traction whilst snapchanging from 1st to second......I can even do it in my 89 twin carb...

I will kill any auto driver of the same car garuanteed...

some cars have good autos.. but not honda ...

my autobox will own all.

i shifted my dx tranny all the time, was much faster that way.

here the trick for you auto drivers.

D3 start, then after it shifts once, downshift to D2, then shift it manually through the gears when its nearing redline D2-D3-D4 and you'll be jetting everywhere. only do this in races tho, its not good to shift an autobox like this.

Exactly. Honda autos are gutless. The only types of cars where Auto will beat stick probably is in V8s since they got so much torque that the loss from the auto tranny doesn't matter and a lot of times auto V8s are faster. And Benzes also have REALLY nice autos, the ones I have driven respond better than a manual it seems (though I have never driven a manual benz, but 99% of benzes are auto so not many people have)!

My grandma's ( yes grandma's :rolleyes: ) Nissan Maxima 02' is auto, and is fast as $h!t. Picks up like a Biznitch. I love that car. And if thats only a Auto.. i want a manual.. or at least test drive one :D

The supra autos are suppost to be shit hot.

According to the guys in the supra group they r near enough the same in aceleration...

thats incorrect, autos handle big power better than manual cars do, especially forced induction cars, they dont loose boost when the shift, and msot newer autos can shift faster than a person ever could.

the fastest drag cars on earth, are all auto-boxes.

only good autos are atleast 5 speed sport trannies, otherwise autos are fucking terrible and will never get you a win, easy or otherwise...unless ur racing a geo or stock civic like mine,hehe

Auto's suck. I drive a 2nd Gen CRX, Im slower than 3rd gen's. I once went for a cruise and there was a guy with an AUTOMATIC (shock they DO exist!!!!) 3rd Gen. Was so slow it hurt.

lol, yea, thats true, i got 3 cars right now!! too bad only one is running... :rolleyes: *sigh* o well, soon i will get that GSR motor or something in that car must be B seies and must have Vtec :) well, i guess i'll change it eventually and post some pics of the Saturn.....

Usually when people are talking about this subject they say "Oh I don't know how to drive a stick" When someone asks me about it I say "Yea, I don't know how to drive an automatic"

Unless I'm so old I don't have enough strenth to push the clutch in and my arthritis is so bad i can't grip the knob, I'll always have a stick. :D

i have an auto 89 crx
i can beat my friends 88 crx dx when we raced, but that could be an issue of his driving
i'm not too into racing or anything, i drive day to day and i like being able to relax with my auto,
if i wanted fun and power, no shit i would say stick is the way to go
if i get a second car, like for winter or something, totally stick

I dont think there is ONE person running a HONDA slushbox in the pro import drag ranks right now.

If someone knows different, prove me wrong. Honda autos are garbage for power, they have enough trouble running the stock motors.

I dont really think the whole "shift on boost" arguement really holds up because of the drivetrain loss. Any one who is running forced induction should know where to shift their manual to stay in the powerband. If you dont, your a stupid fuck that that doesnt deserve turbo.

Autos are for lazy people and grandparents (and people who plan on going 5speed when they get the $$)

I think all cars should be manual. Then people wouldnt have time to do stupid shit like put on makeup, talk on the phone, or read books. I hate auto cars. :finger:

well, i can drive stick, shift gears, be on the phone, smoke a cigarette and drive perfectly, although i can't turn my head due to the phone on my shoulder, but i can still drive...... :D

What exactly is this "snapchanging" thing?

Some guys manage to "snap" the manual gear into the next gear without stepping on the clutch first, but timing is essential. Lotsa guys here in South Africa learned to do it first on the old 1500 Nissan Langleys.

Some guys can do it with other cars, but it is risky, getting stripped boxes and all...

there's this kid i know with a turbo teg and when he first got up to the track he ran a 10.5 (1/8th mile) and then when i showed him how to launch it. he ran a 9.2, he's one of those kid that dad bought everything for him, but i give him props cause he's a cool kid and is tring to learn, it's just he got the turbo before the know how you know???

MANUAL for sure, driving would be boring if not, be like driving a mobility kart:bloated:

automatics are cool if you just wanna chill or something but manual is just much more fun :bigthumb:

Autos for V8 C4,c6,727,th350,th400,powerglides...autos
own in rwd v8 drag racing.

Manual for hondas or small engines that dont make much

went driving my dads oldsmobile achivea yesterday, 5sp...and then i went back into my car...it sucked soo much driving my car

i will probably get one automatic in my life, it will be my avalanche we one day get to tow wave runners/jet skis and shit like that
