Good morning, I've a 2000 Monte Carlo, 3.4 engine with nearly 108K miles. The engine light came on again this morning. Got a code of P0440 which according to scan tool is a malfunction in EVAP system. Thus far, i've replaced the canister purge valve and installed a new fuel cap. I'm noticing a gas odor at rear end of vehicle on driver side after getting out of the vehicle. Could this be a bad vent valve or vapor hose or canister hose? How do you determine if the vent valve is bad or not? I anticipate to inspect the vapor hose and canister hose this weekend. Hopefully, I can find the culprit. Thanks

Could be just about anything, rusted fuel fill pipe, leaking tank or gasket, vent solenoid, any of the lines, canister, etc.
The only surefire way to find a leak is with a smoke machine...
