Interior lighting - 2007 Honda Civic EX

I have a 2007 Honda Civic EX and was in a car accident a few weeks ago. I had a lot of work done to repair the front of the vehicle. I got the car back 2 days ago and have been inspecting it to make sure everything is as it should be. Once driving it at night... something seems different about the interior lighting somewhere around where the speedometer, mileage gage, steering wheel, radio, and/or air conditioning controls are... I just can't put my finger on what it is exactly and I don't know if it's just because I got used to a different lighting in the rental car that I drove for 3 weeks.
The main thing I am not sure about: BEFORE, after I cranked up the car, I don't remember the lighting of everything (that was already lit before turning on the the headlights) dimming down once turning on my headlights... I thought that it stayed the same brightness even after turning on my headlights... but now it gets significantly dimmer. Can someone with this model/year civic - who has one in good condition - please tell me what happens when you turn the headlights on? Or someone with a lot of knowledge of this specific model/year civic?
The other big thing: The area that controls the air conditioning lights up so that I can see it in the dark, but no part of my radio/auxiliary/cd unit control area lights up so that I can see where it is in the dark... all I can see in the dark is the blue screen that tells what I'm presently listening to. I can't remember... should I be able to see this area (with the volume/channel knobs, saved station buttons, forward/rewind buttons, aux/cd/radio buttons, etc.) lit up?

sounds like a fuse or wire is bad somewhere

When the lights are on try pressing the + button until you hear a beep and see if that is the brightness you had before.
There is 1 setting for when lights are off, and also 1 setting for when they are on.
The missing audio unit illumination may be another matter though.

I don't think it's the fuse because it looks fine to me. So I'm thinking it the wiring. Thanks

For the audio illumination... it was quite common on early models for this section of the head unit to fail making all of the audion buttons dark at night.
I will look up the connector info and edit the post when I have it. You can measure voltage with the lights on and illumination brightness level on high. If the voltage is present you likely have a problem with the head unit.

At head unit connectors:
Connector A Pin 1 = RED = dash lights brightness controller (use negative meter lead)
Connector A Pin 10 = GRAY = Illumination + ( use positive meter lead )
Measure voltage with parking lights on and brightness set to max.
If you have voltage present under this test the problem will likely be in the head unit.
