rust proofing paints and primers

I am fixing a slight rust problem with my bimmer(the original owner let a battery exploid and I did not discover the problem until after I bought the car) and I have seen many off those rust stopping primers and paints. I was wondering if anyone suggest using these problems or has any insight on these products or my particular problem.
