Hopefully someone here has had the problem. Is this a common problem and does it need a whole gauge cluster or can the tach be replaced individually ?? Where is the best place to get the best price ?? Thanks.

I would recommend contacting your local dealer for more assistance. If you are looking for a part, I would recommend taking a look at gmpartsdirect.com. To do a search by model year simply choose catalog at the top of the page then choose agree. Please feel free to keep me posted regarding your progress. Thank you in advance.

As a follow up, I checked with a scan tool and had a tach signal. I assumed (correctly) that it was a gauge problem with a bad stepper motor. I did some research on the web and found a guy in Missouri that specializes in rebuilding gauge clusters for $189 including shipping both ways. He also has comprehensive videos on his web site for cluster removal for most vehicles. He replaces ALL the stepper motors for the gauges with new updated ones and also replaces ALL of the soldered in bulbs in the cluster. When I got it back, the tach was fixed and the dark spots on my cluster were gone. I feel this is a much better deal than a junk yard cluster or a $600 from the dealer part. His name is Fred and his company is Dr. Speedometer. You can look him up on the web if you need his services. Did I mention he gives a lifetime warranty??? Anyways, I highly recommend him. I hope this post will help someone in the future and wish it would become a "sticky".
