2000 K2500 SES code PO151

I have a 2000 K2500 with the 5.7 V-8, auto, 4x4, extra cab with about 64,000 miles on it.
The truck is throwing a PO151 code. There was another code in the system, but I did not see what number it was. I was told that the left side O2 sensor after the cat needed replaced. I replaced the sensor and changed the plugs and wires. I am still getting this code. The truck runs poorly at idle most of the time. At times, the truck will run great. I can feel something change in the way it runs while driving. It's like turning a switch and the truck runs and idles fine.

Any help with this would be appreciated a great deal.

YOU ARE WAY OFF ON SENSOR LOCATION.
Code 151 is for bank 2 sensor 1.
Bank 2 is right side and sensor 1 is front sensor on right side .

Also we need other code no.

Was codes cleared after repair and did they come back and what no came back?

first off do you know what your vehicle has for an engine ?????

1999 on up the 2500 has a 6.o liter engine... so this was replaced with a 350 cu engine ????

the 151 DTC means that you have a lean condition on the driver side of the engines exhaust...with the miles on this I would suspect an injector dirty...could be vacuum leak on this side of engine..

things to do would be make sure the sensor wires are sound and not damaged by the exhaust pipes ...next replace the PCV and make sure these crankcase hoses are good condition.. remove the vacuum line from the fuel regulator and check that no fuel is in that line or it smells strongly of fuel. add a bottle of techron feul injector cleaner to fuel ..also add 3-4 ounces of marvel mystery oil with this...

If your lucky could be just an injector dirty..

AT 60,OOO MI I WOULD NOT EXPECT THE O2 SENSOR TO BE BAD...\\

BUT THE WIRES SURE CAN GET DAMAGED...

the last thing I can think of now would be the exhaust manifold bolts. these bolts on this year/model are defect GM crap...they break.... If so this would also create this code if on the driverside........

MT 2500, thanks for your reply. Since my last post I realized that I was misinformed about the sensor location. I installed the right sensor and the truck seems to be running much better. The sensor's electric connection was soaked in oil from an oil leak that I just found. There was oil inside the connection. Could this have been part of the problem? I have taken steps to make sure that this does not happen again. The codes have been cleared, so we'll see what develops.

J cat,
Take it easy with the question marks, friend. I know what engine is in my truck. Notice in the original post that the truck is a K2500 not a Silverado HD. There is a difference. K2500s in 2000 came with the 350 or 454 from the factory, not the 6.0. Attention to detail is a lost art, but ignorance runs rampant.

Thanks for posting back how it went.
Yes oil or coolant or moisture or corrision in a connection can givea lot of problems.
Also getting the right sensor location.
Good luck.

yes your correct that this K 2500 was produced with the 350/454 cu engines..

you should have posted this in the proper C/K not silverado forum .

the crankcase venting system needs attention if this engine has oil leaks at this mileage.. how often have you replaced or inspected the crankcase vent system for proper operation. with a coolant leak in the crankcase this will cause this problem as well as the failure of the O2 sensors. oil on the sensor connection could cause the sensor not to work correctly. clean off the sensor and connector with electronic cleaner/MAF cleaner.......

The C/K forum is for 1998 and older vehicles according to the sticky post. That's why I posted in the Silverado forum. Just trying to follow the rules and instructions as listed on the site.

I just bought this truck last month, and I am trying to get it sorted out. I have feeling that the truck spent a lot of time idling, so the hours on the engine are much higher than the mileage would indicate.

Thanks.

I would get a vehicle history report on this one . the mileage is too low to have O2 sensor failures...oil leaks...

oil leaks are usually caused by excessive crankcase pressure. a PCV or hoses will cause this ..

when ever you get this code you swap the O2 sensors bank 1 /2 upstream ,,,, then see if the code changes.. if you still get the 151 dtc then you know its the engine , not the sensor...

The truck was owned by a municipality in Virginia. I saw the original title and they were the first owner and only other owner besides me.
Since changing the proper O2 sensor the truck runs like a champ with no SES light.
Will look into oil leak next.

Changing 02 sensor souds like a winner.
City driving and delivery/utitly trucks get a lot of sittng and idleing and short slow drives that can put more than double miles on engine then on odemeter clock.

Thanks for posting back fix and how it went.
