Hello everyone,
My problem is when I put the key in ignition and try to start the car. I have no dash lights and I do not hear the fuel pump working. I replaced the relay under the hood. Checked the big ignition fuses both are good. When I let off the key I can hear clicking by the fuse box on passenger side. The engine will not crank. I put in a good battery and no change. Radio works until I try to start the car. The headlights work and dont go out when I try to start the car.:banghead:
Thanks for everyones input.

Turn key to "on", don't crank....look at the SECURITY light in the dash....should come on for 3-5 seconds and then go out.....does it stay on?

There is no dash lights at all, it is like no power when the key is turned on. Still nothing when I turn the key over.

Check the battery cables/connections.

I checked the connections of the battery, and even replaced the battery. I turn on the headlights, and when I try to crank the engine the headlights do not go out. The interior lights dont even go dim when I try to crank it. As I turn the key back and forth I can hear a clicking sound by the fuse panel on the passenger side that is near the metal box with lots of wires going to it.

Locate the starter underneath the exhaust manifolds on the front of the motor. Have someone hit the starter with a light hammer but not terribly hard WHILE you turn the key to crank. That will sometimes help the starter make contact inside if it's on its way to failing.
Did you separate the two positive cables and make sure there was NO corrosion between them on the spacer?
The lack of lights on the dash might be a ground problem. Try hitting the ground buss on the driver side under the door sill plastic, under the carpet where the door frame flattens out. The ground buss there gets corroded. I don't know if it is a ground for the dash indicator lights, but it's worth a try.

Thanks for the help I will try these soultions next.
Also on the dash gauges they do not work they are in the same position as when i turned the car off last. Could something in the ignition switch becausing this problem. also I do have dash lights and ignition key bell does sound when i put in the keys

The ignition switch was my next mention for checking if the starter vibration didn't make contact in the solenoid for you. A few people are finding ignition switches giving problems after years and miles of wear--that's the switch and not the key cylinder at the top of the column...

i had similar symptoms and ultimately thought for sure it was the security system BUT... what my problem was is the bolt in the main junction block/wiring under the kick panel had come loose so i tightened the bolt in the center and problem solved. WHO KNEW:screwy:

Hello everyone,
Thought I would post what I found out. Ended up being the Ignition switch down on the steering column picked one up at oreillys automotive for 30.00 bucks. Thanks to everyone’s help.
