2000 GT A/C Compressor?

2000 GT 158K. I noticed that my A/C isn't blowing cold anymore so I bought some R134, charged the system to the green and still no cold air. I checked the pressure again and it is still in the green band so I do not think that I have a leak in the system. Would the compressor be the next component in line to change? Your help is always welcome. Thanks.

Are you sure that the compressor is bad? Check to make sure that all the wiring is right and that the clutch in engaging. You could have an issue with the relay that turns the compressor off and on. Make sure to check it first. If you find that the compressor is bad then you will need to have the system evacuated before you remove the compressor and then you will need to pull a vacuum on the system before recharging. If you don't have the proper tools take it to an AC shop to have them do the service for you. It will save time and money in the long run.

W-cars are known for temp door actuator issues---does yoours travel from full heat to full cold? Is a/c suction line (by firewall) cool?

Is the compressor running? Is low side line cold, as previously asked?

Charged to green with what? What type of gauge? What psi and at what ambient temperature? On a full evacuation/vacuum the system needs around 2.25 lbs of R134a. The old charge figures were dumped in favor of the new by GM. In a tech bulletin.

I used an off the shelf product made by Interdynamics with built in guage. IIRC, the chart at 75 degrees showed that I should be at between 25 - 45 psi. I was right at 35 PSI when the bottle was empty. The bottle quantity was 19 oz. Should I try another bottle?

Thanks again.

I can hear the compressor running when I hit the A/C button. And yes the low side is cold to the touch.

Thanks.

There is full travel from heat to cold. Thanks.

I'm not fan of those type products. I use a regular A/C manifold gauge set where I can test the high side too.

Which climate control system do you have? Manual single, manual dual zone or automatic dual zone ACC? Even with a low charge you should get some cooling out of the vents. On most low charge situations you'll get cool/cold air out of the passenger side and warm/hot air out of driver's side.

It's a manual single system and it seems to be consitantly warm across all 4 vents.

So how do you know temp door has full travel from hot to cold, did you watch it? You need to take actuator off and move the door by hand to understand how many degrees the door actually is supposed to move. Then watch actuator- does it stop prematurely?

I did not watch the door. How do you access the actuator? Thanks.

Drop glove box out- it's behind there- then unbolt actuator and move temp door by hand- see if that helps when it is in full cold position.
