300Zx- to buy or not to buy?

hey i am new to this forum, this is my first post. i am admittedly a toyota guy (two ae86's and an 87 4-runner) but recently someone i work with sparked my interest with a 300zx rhd auto vg30dett. he only wants 2000 for the car, it just had a 6200$ rebuild ( seen invoice with my own two eyes) and hasnt driven it since because an oil pressure problem about 3000 rpm. a quick look underneath
revealed a serious mess of an oil pan....( im thinking cracked pickup, bad pump?) after 5 minutes research ive heard that the VG can be quite a lemon.
i am an apprentice mechanic and dont mind getting my hands dirty, but is this too good to be true?? the body itself is worth 2 gs.... maybe a 1j swap?
if i could get some advice from someone who has ACTUALLY had experience with a vg30dett that would help. i have all winter to decide so i dont mind doing my research. thanks. :)
