well, i know some of you regulars will be shocked to see this. a progress thread from me??? well, pick your jaws up off the floor, cause it's true!
so ever since i started making models of Japanese cars, i've been on a never-ending search for a Sileighty. it's the car i want to build in real life, and thus i wanted to make a model of it as well. i couldn't order from HLJ or HobbySearch, as i didn't have access to a credit card. so i go to my local hobby shop one day, and there, staring me in the face, is the Fujimi Initial D Sileighty. i paid $45 Canadian for it, but i don't care. it was WAY worth it, because i've been looking for one for at least 3 years now.
anyways, the plans were originally to make a super-boro flat-black drifter version, but i've done such a good job on the primer (IMO) that it would be an injustice to just paint over it with flat black. so i've decided to go with Tamiya Mica Red (don't remember the TS code name off-hand), and i'm still debating on wheels. my 2 choices are: 1) convert Aoshima Advan RG's to fit Fujimi car or b) use 16" BBS mesh wheels that came with it, but with centre's painted gold. any help on that wheel decision would be appreciated! i'm also going to use a styrene FMIC made by me as per FlyOnTheWall's instructions, and i'm going to try to make an exhaust out of aluminum tubing. some slight camber will be added to the wheel angles, and the wing used is the Wangan style wing that came with the kit, which is also the wing i want to put on my real-life Sileighty. shock absorbers will be painted green and silver to replicate Tein HA's, the shocks i want on my real car. the plastic bit between the headlights was painstakingly removed by hand by me with a modeller's knife. i think S13's look the best when there's nothing in between the headlights, not even a grille.
so here she is almost all primed up. one more coat was put on after these pictures were taken, possibly the last coat.

Right, you're making a fantastic car !
Keep us at all costs updated !
I would love to see how other people tackle their models!
Also, I do not know the rims by heart, could you post some pics of them Please?

when the chassis is put under the body, the very top of the radiator peeks out of the hole. i've test-fitted, and when you look through the hole, you can see the very top of the rad.

Glad you finally got the model you've been searching for. And oh what a sick model that is. Now I'll give you one of my FC's for it ;). Anyway, I think you should use the Advan RG's. That'd look tight.
I make my exhausts with some brass and metal tubing. If you need any help on how to keep them together, I'll tell you what i did (you can see what it looks like on my Efini RX-7 FD). I don't feel like typing a whole bunch now.

just goes to show what a great car it is, eh? ;)
just touched up the primer in a few of the weak spots, and painted the FMIC. i plan to use Chris's idea of making a logo stencil to spray paint onto it. i'll take some pics of the wheel choices, the FMIC, the tubes for my exhaust and other stuff tomorrow. i also plan to start on the interior tomorrow. look for paint sometime mid-late week, so the primer can harden.

I think you should go with the tried and true drift wheel..some watanabes. Fujimi makes a real nice set of 17" ones that look nice in the fenderwells. Or if you have the Advan RG's already use them..they look good too. Make sure you lower it some, one of these days i'll get around to finishing my sileighty model...but i wanna finsh my full size one first. BTW there is an s13 silvia kit out by fujimi that comes with pre lowered suspension pieces..its the naniwa tomoare as listed on the HLJ site..here it is (http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid63/p9e641833c25e4d0f123687f11447f5ed/fc09773b.jpg) . I haven't mocked it up on mine yet to see how much it really lowers but i have been thinking about trying to cast these parts for those of you who might want them.. I got my kit off of ebay..it was listed as the "team treason" silvia..it also comes with a nice set of 5 point harnesses with cloth too.
The kit is looking good man, can't wait to see it finished

hey man, i would DEFINITLEY slap a set of Wats on there if i could find some! as i said i don't have access to a credit card and the internet is about the only place that i can find them! the BBS wheels that came with the kit are a tight mesh-type wheel, almost look like SSR Formula Mesh, which is one of my favourite wheels and a drift classic.
PM me with details about your real-life car, as i'm planning on building one too. :)
oh btw, the link in your post there is a link to the pic in your sig. :p

Watanabes would look the ducks nuts and Advan RG's are one of my personal favourites. I am putting them on my 180SX Type X. When you get around to it make sure you explain how you lowered the car. Should be awesome when you are done, as long as you dont put neons and subs in it that is ;)

oh don't worry, i'm not a ricer, so no subs or neons will come within 100 feet of this or any of my models. :)
stryfe - there are so many ricers and idiots on that onlineshowoff webpage eh? like that one guy who commented on your car. he owns a Del Sol and asked you wear he could buy some S13 lights to put them on his Honda.  some people just don't get it.

Oh i know...he's a little slow, actually him and his brother hang out at the local shop alot..he was kidding..he tries not to be a ricer but its kinda hard to convert him to the proper ways of the force..lol I am very anti rice, even though my car will be considered rice by the hardcore 240 owners to be rice with the paint job i'm getting..no graphics but a candy color with either the factory aero sideskirts and rear with an areo bumper up front or with a k-style bumper and the kouki type x sideskirts..maybe..all on top of some advan oni's , wats, or te37's. when I build my s13 silvia kit, i'm painting it the color my car will be..already ordered the paint. Also on a side note the team treason silvia with the lowered supsension peices was opened up and mocked up to test for clearance..and unfortunatly these kits suffer the same plite of full size s13 owners who have to go thru the trouble of getting wheels to fit..gotta do some grinding here and there to get the wats to fit right, but the front is tucking wheel..so once its done it should look nice.

thanks man...just wait until you see the color..i hope it comes out looking like I think it will..just think signal auto s15 :D
as for motor sr all the way man...i got the lowly one cam wonder in there now with about 170k miles and its about the same price to do a kat as an sr. I thought about the rb but its more hassle for what i want powerwise(about 275 at the wheels is good enough for me) more and more are doing the rb swaps since a few companies have started offering kits to install them and some rb20's and 25's can be had fairly cheap compaired to the sr. well i gotta run on..

well, i know you've all been waiting anxiousley (especially Ryan), so here's another update (finally!) now that i've got that pesky history ISU done and over with.
first off, my 2 wheels choices.
first is the set of 16" BBS RS that came with the kit. good quality for Fujimi, and i'd be painting the centres gold.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/429675smallBBS.jpg
secondly, Aoshima 18" Advan RG. i'd leave them gold, but these would require me to have to convert the wheels from male to female.

and here's some pics of the first mist coat of TS-39 Mica Red that i applied tonight. came out alot more red than i thought it would, but maybe it will dry darker. can anyone with experience with this color let me know how it turns out?

sorry about the blurry-ness of the wheel pics. it's late and i was hurrying so i could get to bed quicker. ;)
more updates as i make more progress. i'll most likely start on the interior and put another coat of paint on the body tomorrow. enjoy!
first off, my 2 wheels choices.
first is the set of 16" BBS RS that came with the kit. good quality for Fujimi, and i'd be painting the centres gold.

secondly, Aoshima 18" Advan RG. i'd leave them gold, but these would require me to have to convert the wheels from male to female.

I believe Pman's PT cruiser was painted mica red (in the gallery).

It looks great! Love the color. I think the RG's would definately suit the car the best. Gold & Red make a nice mix.

Hmmm, Brian, wouldn't be better if you lifted the body slightly on something so that the paint can get to the undersides to when you spray? Just wondering ;)
Other than that, glad to see the SilEighty coming along:)

you're right, Ray. i plan to make a coat-hanger apparatus for the next coats. this coat was just the very first one, just to get the very first paint on the car.

well, time for another update.
more paint on the car now. all and all maybe 2-3 coats total so far. there's some orange peel on the hood that i have to take care of, and also a small case of pooling in the middle of the wing. i'll let the pics speak.

http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/533031smallred4.jpg
you can see the pooling in this picture. if you look on the top tray of the wing, near the middle, there's a couple of spots around the edges that are darker then the rest. does anyone have any idea how i could get rid of this?

Try slightly lighter coats to avoid more pooling...

don't think i'll make much progress today, as i've just gotten my wisdom teeth out. not too mobile, and the Tylenol 3 should be kicking in and making me drowsy soon. but tomorrow, i promise there'll be more! :)

Great color choice. I suggest spraying lighter coats as well to avoid those paint buildups.
Did they put you on oxy contin (sp?) for the pain? My consumer ed teacher was put on that for his wisdoms and he said it was some crazy stuff.

not sure really. i got Naawws'd (lol) to relax me, then an IV of something else, and then Novocain in the mouth. i can't remember a single second of the procedure except that the dentist and his assistant were chatting about Miata's at one point.

Awesome man...NAWWZZZ! Its so good...even the dentists use it! As for the operation...thats really odd that you can't remember anything else. My theory is that the operation is such excrutiating pain that the dentist brainwashes you so you can't remember. My friend's brother doesn't remember one second of his operation.

unfortunatley, it doesn't look like i'll be doing much work on her until a week from saturday, as it's exam time at school and i really should get studying. but once those are over, i'll be burning the oil to get this one finished ASAP. we'll see what happens. maybe i'll find some time...
