2002 GP AC intermitant problem

2002 GP SE AC fails some times. When it works, everything works fine. When it fails, AC does not come on under any circumstances. Max AC with fan set at 1-5, no AC light. Other vent settings with fan set at 1-5, no AC light. Light does not come on when I press the AC button. I believe that the fan on/off controls the AC. Fan does not come on at all when failure occurs.

Your fan switch is the "master" on -off switch for the a/c as well-- since there are speeds 1-4 and "off" on that switch.....the green light going off is your primary clue--it indicates a failure to make continuous contact with the brushes that control the a/c circuit

So I high suspect a faulty fan switch- take control head out, take fan switch off of the control head and look at fan switch contacts-that control the a/c make sure they are not gummed up with hardened grease...bend them so they make better contact...see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. I pulled off the switch knob but I don't see the contacts. Do I need to remove the dash panel to access? OK since I also need to remove the panel to replace the backlight for the clock/radio.

Anyone have a picture of the switch (inside)?

Really need a TECh II scanner to trouble shoot this......first, you need to see if there is an A/C "request".....then you need to read the data from the pressure sensor......then you need to see if the PCM is grounding or attempting to ground the clutch relay.....
