You can run an amp off your factory deck by using the high end inputs( rear speaker wires) and running them into your inputs on your amp. They should be a plastic pin plug on your amp(should be same side as you gains and power controls) and run them that way. I would just replace the factory deck, RCA's are better than wires.

I heard that you can't remove the factory deck. It has something to do with the computer or passlock. You need to relocate the deck, usually in the glove box. Metra sells a relocation wire harness for this. After you move it to the glove(or somewhere else) you will need to re-run all wires from ign. and speakers.

Yours may be different than mine.
Mine is a 1998 Sunfire GT.
I changed my deck and have had no problems.
Maybe take some time and check into it a bit more.
I will look with the people I know at the dealership here and se what can be done.

Yeah I've 1998 GT as well and no problems changing mine either. This is a new system that came out in 2000/2001. Just to deter people from stealing the deck.

You would be better off using an amplifier kit (Power wire, Ground Wire, Lead Wire, RCAs, etc etc) than the high imput plugs... But it depends on what you're gonna use the amp for.

i've had mine replaced also...i have an 01 sunfire se sedan & what they had to do was take the factory deck & put it in the trunk (behind the matting/carpet & put a kit inplace of it so that the deck would fit. i believe the size of the factory was about a 2DIN...they need to keep everything hooked up into the factory b/c that's where your ABS,airbags, etc is all controlled from. it's a little pricey to have it done, but worth it.

btw, pretty much any mods to the engine will void the warranty.

Why would anyone want to steal the factory deck?
Why are we responding to a thread that was started 1 year ago?

If you're doing an amp install on a factory deck, I suggest getting a PowerLink II (PL2 for short). Mount it to the top of your trunk, it has four wire ins on it for attaching wires that you splice to the + and - of your left and right rear speakers, and then it has RCA out plugs on it to hook to your amp. Other than that, do your amp's +, GRND, and remote wires the normal way.
