Good First car for me?

alright so ill be 16 in about 2-3 weeks. here in virginia we get our licenses at 16 and 3 months so i figured it would be smart to start early so that i can get a decent car for a decent price and wont have to buy one last minute. i am buying used only.
I have worked some last summer and all of this summer and have come up with about $3900. I know that there are some good cars for this price. I went and looked at an 98' audi a4 the other day. The problem was the timing belt needed replacing and the guy wouldn't come down on price very much considering how much maintenance was. The problem was the people who say, "once you ride in an audi it says it all" are right i absolutely loved the feel, the comfort and the performance of the engine. Another problem is because i only make minimum wage is i would not be able to afford the maintenance costs on really any german car. So here is my question are there any japanese/korean cars that handle, perform, and feel like an audi? if not then i may either go with the alternatives. a 2003 hyundai tiburon if i can snatch one for a bargain, or 93-2000 honda prelude.What are your opinions on those.
and if neither of those work out ill get a piece of shit truck and buy a used dirt bike with the left overs.

A good compromise to an A4 would possibly be one of these: nissan maxima, honda accord or acura TL. You know, if you find a VW passat for a reasonable price, it is the same ride because it is the same car! Also, tell your friend with the Audi that if he doesn't change his timing belt, he WILL cause extensive engine damage due to the interference characteristics of the engine, should the timing belt fail.

Honestly, there aren't any japanese cars that would give you the same feeling of an Audi. Japanese cars aren't built for comfort. They're mostly built for long-lasting and probably, a little to performance. However, if you're looking for an alternative, I suggest you taking either a toyota camry(probably 1-2 models back) or a honda integra if you're looking for performance and modifications in the near future. Honda Integra isn't as comfortable though. Otherwise, get a ford fiesta :D
